    Outlaw Josey Wales
I tried listening to Episode 87 “The Outlaw Josey Wales” and had to stop. The podcast lost all credibility with me due to exchanges like this one, “And has Clint Eastwood always been slightly racist? Yeah. Like, every time he made that movie, I think that was just so he could say a racial slur all the time. Like how Quentin Tarantino gets to say the N word all the time in his movies. That Gran Torino movie? Yeah, that Gran Torino, yeah. That's the only other, I think the only other movie I watched with Clint Eastwood. Yeah, and he just keeps saying like a racial slur the whole time, being racist. They just live out their fantasies.” I mean, nobody in their right mind is going to be a Clint Eastwood apologist, especially me given his personal and cinematic propensity for misogyny and right wing fascism. Is he a racist? Yes? No? Maybe? I’ve no idea. He might be. I know that he clearly was anti-Obama and that’s enough for me to write him off as being dead to me. But that’s not really the point here. Labeling an actor a racist because of lines they utter from a script? That is such a shallow and gross generalization, let alone one that completely and / or conveniently ignores the growth in the Eastwood character throughout the film-he later sacrifices his life to save the family of the very people he held prejudices toward in the beginning of the film. But let’s forget that part, the um…I think it’s called “The Hero’s Journey” / “Journey of the Protagonist” i.e, basic film study 101. By your standards, Anthony Hopkins was acting out his personal fantasies for cannibalism in “Silence of the Lambs”. Or Ralph Fiennes got to dig deep in his innate anti semitism as the Nazi war camp commander in “Schindler’s List”? Or Denzel Washington must certainly be a homophobe because he clearly didn’t want to take Tom Hanks’ case in “Philadelphia”. I mean the absurdity of that gross generalization? Absolutely cringe worthy. Secondly, “that’s the only other movie (Grand Torino) I watched with Clint Eastwood”. Really? So your insightful commentary comes from the viewing one other film? How about doing a little homework? Maybe read something besides IMDB? Good grief. Your words, “a lot of natives really like this movie (Outlaw Josey Wales) because it has us in there, but we’re not, we’re like humanized and stuff…we’re just regular people, you know…It isn’t about natives. And so natives get to just be natives, which is cool for a movie at this time period”. Interesting. Directed by Clint Eastwood, the racist

Love the ensemble cast wish we could get some same ones on different episodes. To hear their views although Cheryl Kary is a great steady hand at the helm.

    Funny and insightful!
This podcast keeps introducing me to fun new movies and TV shows. Really refreshing to have a Native perspective on media, especially one that gives me “driveway moments” where I have arrived where I’m going, but I stay in the car a few minutes to finish the episode because it’s smart and engaging. Good stuff!

    Very entertaining!
I just listened to the Indian in the Cupboard episode and now I have to rewatch the movie as an adult. It use to be one of my favorites when I was little, my grandma met Litefoot at a conference and got me his autograph because I had a huge crush on him. Lol
