    Insightful and Hope-giving
I find so much encouragement in listening to these insightful, humble Christians. As a Christian who doesn’t always feel like she fits in at evangelical churches, I felt a sense of community in listening to these messages! I especially appreciated the two-part series on Christian Nationalism; I loved the combination of clarity and generosity toward those who get mixed up in those beliefs. What a message of grace and hope. Thank you to all of you who make this show possible.

    Question
I once heard one of these podcasts where Dan talks about his son dropping out of college after his third year to become a welder and how Dan dealt with that. I think there was also that story about his daughter’s piano recital. I really would like to find that podcast for a friend. Does anybody know which of these it is? I have scrolled and scrolled through past episodes… Maybe I heard Dan tell those stories somewhere else? THANK YOU for any help anybody can offer!

    Some great work
I have found tremendous Amie in so much of the material presented and range of guests invited to share, but the Christian National podcasts crossed the line. I am a Christian and political conservative who has a firm grasp on Jesus’ teachings that what is Caesar’ is separate from what our faith is. I found the tone was we were unable to separate and therefore should flee those that pander to us.

    Poignant
Love the content, very healing for all who recognize trauma in their lives. I don’t like the politics talk though, it belittles the greater message of healing for all.

    Do not be fooled
Do not be fooled, as I was, into giving hours to these podcasts or into purchasing expensive materials. Following the recent election, the perpetually whiney co-host begins the podcast, sobbing. The election did not go her way and she is literally crying. Somehow, the hosts attempt to weave this into some sort of narrative about exploitation and abuse. As a therapist who works with people who are victims of actual violence and actual abuse, I find this indescribably offensive. Particularly reprehensible is the hosts’ attempts to cram their woke views into the Bible. Pretending to have some value to suffering people, the hosts use this platform as an opportunity to perpetuate myths created by biased media sources. This podcast is a political podcast. Do not be fooled, as I was for a short while, into believing that this podcast or the materials sold by this organization have value in helping hurting people. The Allender Center is directly complicit in the exploitation by one of the -equally harmful- political entities in the United States. Dr. Allender’s books went out with the trash this morning. I am deleting their materials from my computer and canceling all subscriptions. Unless you are of a particular woke variety, you will find nothing of value here. I hope you -wake up- to the intent of these publications quicker than did I.

    Just can’t take it anymore
I have read Dr. Allen’s book and it was very helpful. But this latest episode about Christmas really captures the problem with this podcast. Is there anything that happens in your lives that doesn’t create shame and trauma?

    Extreme Woke Christianity
If you view God as female, hate capitalism and see America as “the problem”, then this podcast is for you!
  • Number Two.
    Spiritual Abuse
Not sure what I think of this. Sounds to me kinda like two woke people philosophizing and pontificating on a lot of random but loosely connected topics. Not a lot of clarity or cohesion or direction in their musings. Think maybe it’s a big sales job for their latest course they’re promoting. Sorry if this sounds too critical but it’s my take. I’ll probably listen or read again to see if I can decipher what they are trying to say and challenge my own thinking.

Episode on checking in from Nov 1st
Thank you for this episode. I have been working on trying to not dehumanize those who think radically differently from me, so this episode was helpful, not in giving answers, just in recognizing that it is hard when emotions are strong, and the cost of decision making in power structures is so great. Thank you

    Much needed

    Thank you!
So thankful that I found this podcast. It has been such an immense blessing. I look forward to each and every episode! Thank you so much for the time and energy it takes and I am so grateful for your love to your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to invest into each and every one of us with the love of Christ.

As if they are speaking another language.
I don’t know if I’m just stupid but I often have to re listen to episodes because the language they use is so esoteric and nuanced. Using such speech I believe, puts their content out of reach for for the lay person. I have gleaned some helpful insights from the Allender center podcast, but it all goes out the window when I hear the Lords name used in vain. Which by itself should be a red flag for anyone, I am disappointed in myself for not pulling the plug sooner.

    Love!!
I love this show and continue to learn and grow. I first experienced Dan’s teaching at Multnomah 30 years ago (and still have my handwritten notes) Thank you for your faithfulness and kindness in leading me into so much healing and more of Jesus here on earth.

    Holy Runaways
I have so many questions after listening to this podcast. I’ve learned and been impacted in positive ways over the years through Dan’s books and through the Allender Center courses, but what I just heard is false teaching and I no longer will listen to Dan Allender and Rachel Chen unless they align their theology with the truth of the word of God about human sexuality. My question as I listened to this podcast is where is the Gospel in all that was discussed with Mathias? Our sexuality is not on our own terms. God is the author of our sexuality and he uniquely and lovingly created us male and female in His image and likeness. What about repenting from sin, and, trusting Jesus to heal all that is sexually broken and wounded in you? I’ve taken this step of faith as well as my husband, and we’ve been on a journey of sanctification, healing from the sexual wounds and trauma from our past. In Genesis 1-3, the book of Roman’s, the letters to the churches , the Gospels, etc. there is hope for healing because of forgiveness of sins through Jesus’ death and resurrection.

    Counseling Session
It feels like, as of late, that we are listening in on a counseling session. Dan, trying to help Rachel and it doesn’t, so much apply to the rest of us.

Such a beautiful work of the Holy Spirit
I have been listening to this podcast & reading Dan’s books for a while now. But I just truly love how attuned you guys are to the Spirit. It has happened to me several times now… But today - I felt the Lord bringing up in me the need to rest. I had a long season of effectively sitting in stillness with the Lord regularly. But then, as we all do… I got out of routine. I found that in my Bible study this morning, that was the topic. Of coarse - thanks Lord! But THEN as I continued to think through steps to make this change happen - I thought to myself… “Well, I will just check out the allender Center podcast.” & behold, that is the most recent podcast episode. Love you guys. Thankful for your work.

    Enneagram?
I started to listen to an episode on spiritual abuse. As soon as Rachel brought up her enneagram number, I had to stop. It is pseudoscience and is new age. The enneagram had become so prominent in the church inexperienced spiritual abuse at that, as I learned more, was part of the founding decisions and attitudes that lead to the abuse. I’m sorry, but I cannot trust much of anything that is said after that. But stars remain in the review as there has been beneficial discussions in other episodes.

Very rich with seamless delightful pace
I found this podcast via Dan’s guest podcast speaking during Covid-19 outbreak-shutdowns and am deeply grateful for the Team‘s work and time, examples, pauses before answering, transparency and references to the word each time I tune in.

    Are you ready to grow
Dan and Rachel, thank you! I’m a recovering Pharisee from a fairly fundamental church background and would never have listened to you in the past. I’m 58, which tells you a little about the era of the church I grew up in, and was a pastor for 11 years. I experienced so much harm in that environment that my wife finally told me I had to get out because, in her words, “This toxic environment is killing you!” After moving across the country and getting away from all that, the Lord was able to do some amazing work of healing my soul and you have been a significant part of that journey. I have learned so much from you and the story work you have encouraged me to do. It has been incredibly hard, I have wept more in the last 3 years than in the previous 55. It has not only helped me heal but has helped heal my marriage. So much so that my wife of 38 years has also begun her own healing journey. This review can’t begin to say thank you but maybe it can give others the courage to step into their story and begin to heal. Dave

    Content copying
I notice that this podcast copies content from their employees or connections and claims it for their own without crediting the sources.

    A very needed niche
This podcast fills a very important gap between conservative theology and modern psychology. I found the episode on bad theology very helpful. I hope they continue to do more work in that sphere. I think bridging the gap between theology and mental health is very important right now. As I have found disagreements around theology to be one of the biggest mental health challenges of my life.

    General feedback
I am an avid listener of the podcasts and find the topics to be insightful and helpful in the main. However the most recent episode (1/21/22) Rachel begins quoting people’s responses during the pandemic I think, saying, “ Oh my God, I’m….” “Oh my God I’m…” and on and on. It’s not the first time I’ve heard the hosts say “Oh my God!”, in their discussions and it bothers me to hear that right off the bat on a biblically based program. As a Christ follower, I don’t care for when fellow believers use God’s name in vain…..because it’s such a basic carelessness of a precious tenet of our faith. It turned me off immediately to want to listen further today. Please lean into this and take note Dan and team! You have good things to say but this disappointed me today. Respectfully, J Bareham

Grief and Gratitude in Partnerships &Parenting
This podcast exposes true dynamics of disappointment and grief we experience in our most intimate relationships. I found it profoundly insightful, helpful and humbling. Dan and Rachel model relational honesty and hope. Thank you!

I have to agree with the 1 star reviews. Managing our sin and self protection without bringing in Christ is not helpful to anyone.

    Keep the political opinions out
I would occasionally listen to this podcast, however I just can’t bring myself to listen again after Rachel tipped her hand in November and revealed her political opinions. I don’t listen to this podcast to get political opinions. Please keep those to yourself.
  • Me1313245
    Unfortunate political polarization
I use to be a huge fan of this show until they started dismissing political beliefs that are different than theirs under the covering of their wisdom. To dismiss someone who has been bold enough to go before the people and share their story via an affidavit and say that it is untrue is not being a believer of truth in people.
  • Marie Marriott
    Disappointing
Attempting to be relevant and culturally “woke”- even hip I’m afraid there isn’t much room for Christ, for the Gospel here. Made me sad to hear this shift as our family loved his speaking and books back before this intellectual and social tool center stage over Christ.
  • Cara.95
    Full of Wisdom
This show is fascinating and special to me. I appreciate Dan and Rachel’s transparency, carefulness, and wisdom. Thank you for the hours spent creating this and keeping the quality high. I thank God for you both!

    Good but not great.
I do love The Allender Center. I love the work they do. I love the work Dan does. My hope for the Podcast was hearing in on discussions that took us deeper into topics.l without the Christianese that floods the Christian culture. Recently, I’ve found that the hosts sometimes use certain vocabulary for the sake of sounding “intellectual”, “woke” or “trendy” instead of putting what they are saying out there in ways that everyone understand in a way that isn’t riddled with Christianese. What we hear is the parroting of Christianese for sake of parroting. This makes it hard to even listen to the Podcast at times.

    Informative & Validating
This podcast has been so helpful for me to make sense of my past. Now that I have an understanding of emotional and spiritual abuse, I can move further into healing. Thank you for talking about trauma and how it affects the mind, body + soul.

    Particulars pf Spiritual Abuse
A helpful look at how healing is possible after the trauma of loss of a spiritual community after encountering spiritual abuse. I love the reminder is that God can handle the anger we experience in leaving the place of abuse, plus the reality that no church community is perfect and if we keep looking for perfection we continue to find isolation.

    Food And Body
A fabulous podcast indeed!! Diane named the trauma around food, body, and weight stigma brilliantly!! Please have more of these. The trauma of weight stigma is insidious and pervasive, and needs to be named more often.

    Deep and Wide Podcast!
The March 6 episode on authority is important, timely help. Thank you! It is a “bottom line” topic. We all live in a world system vying for our allegiance and giving it is necessary. But to whom we give it and why is a critical consideration. I appreciate the synergism Dan and Rachel create and heartily recommend their conversations to folks wanting to think better about loving God and others.

    A Must-Listen
I can’t say enough good things about the Allender Center and their work. I’ve only been familiar with them for about a month now, but I can’t get enough. I can totally nerd out of psychology, but also get the theological standpoint in there too. It’s like chocolate and peanut butter, the perfect mix. Thank you for all your work! It’s helping us all find healing!

    Life Changed
My world turned upside down then right side up after a story workshop at ICAP. I felt like in 3 days God did years worth of work in my heart. I am forever changed in my personal, professional and creative life. I listen to this podcast to continue fostering curiosity in my faith journey and hope in my ministerial work at Jesus Said Love. Thank you Dr. Allender for a life poured out. I am living fruit.

great Podcast. BUT PLEASE BUY PROPER SOUNDS EQUIPMENT
Love this. Powerful. but Dan!!! Please buy a proper microphone and sound equipment!!!! It sounds like you are recording this on a cheap headset... sound echoey, like I’m listening to a phone call on speaker phone!!

A lot of really great content
There is so much goodness in this podcast. And...they desperately need an editor and producer. It’s particularly true in interview episodes, but also often when Dan speaks alone the whole time. There’s a lot of meandering that makes it hard to follow. I’ve stopped automatically listening to episodes and only choose the ones with especially interesting descriptions.

    Vital
This podcast invites its listeners to believe that the power of the resurrection of Christ is available to restore the deep brokenness in all of us. It also gives permission to be curious about our story, which will reveal how God has been there throughout our story, hurting over our hurts and longing to bring healing. I am relearning who God is and one of the ways is through this podcast. I have learned that God is playful and kind. This knowledge of Him is rippling out into all the facets of my life in surprising ways. Dr Allender and his team are beautiful witnesses to the power, gentleness and love of the gospel. My Heavenly Father has been fathering my heart through this podcast. I am now daring to believe that the one who created the universe is delighting in me and is committed to my good. I can play confidently at home and at work because He is in me, for me and mind bogglingly good.

    Encouraging, thought-provoking, challenging
These podcasts encourage my faith so much! They challenge me to a deeper level of spirituality, as well as a deeper level of humanity. Listening has also grown my desire to be real and authentic and hear people stories. I now have an awareness of how important it is for me to develop my own story, so that I better know who I am & can be a better disciple and follower of Jesus. Thank you!
