A bit of a let down
I really wish this podcast were better, because podcasts about the Premodern format are fairly rare. Unfortunately, I couldn’t even make it through one episode. The hosts have a hard time staying on course, constantly cut each other off and talk over each other, and bicker like an old married couple, which led to an overall unpleasant listening experience. In the episode I listened to, they also seemed to trash a popular new deck and talked pretty presumptively about how wrong some of the choices are, even though the deck has put up great results in the hands of skilled pilots. Some constructive criticism: give each other the space to speak, be gracious and inquisitive about people’s deckbuilding choices, and focus your discussion so it’s not just unfiltered rambling. The two of you are obviously knowledgeable and skilled in the format. I think this podcast has the potential to improve and be great.

The best Premodern podcast out there, and that’s saying a lot!
Mike and Lanny have a chemistry which you simply cannot fake, it’s only product of years of knowing one another, as well as having that camaraderie and mutual respect. Sprinkle in a healthy dose of comedy and sarcasm, and top all of that with Magic wisdom cultivated over a quarter of a century and it’s easy to understand how these two have managed to consistently create the #1 Premodern podcast. Sometimes they will talk about some specific deck or strategy, and seemlessly out of nowhere (and maybe I dare say almost randomly) they’ll pivot and drop such a massive bomb of Magic theory that will drop my jaw to the floor and leave me digesting that information for weeks to come. Both Lanny Huang and Lanny Huang (not a typo) make a great pair of cohosts, especially because Lanny is great at letting Flores stir the conversation in a different direction the right amount before reeling everything back and taking it home. If you enjoy and are serious about Premodern, I think it is your duty to listen to every episode of Spike Colony. You will not be disappointed.

    Yes
Loved how you guys switched from big picture to granular detail and back repeatedly. I may never cast another shepherd of rot in premodern again.
