I live in Maryland. Never appreciated Michael Steele more. One observation that I didn’t hear in this conversation. Democrats who lost in red states should show up (early) for the town halls that elected republican officials are scheduling. If the elected law maker doesn’t show up, they can stump speech and strategize with the constituents about what they can do. If the elected official does show up, they can be the opening act.

Inspirational and vital is this chaotic time.

Leigh McGowan tries to justify the murder of the UnitedHealth Care. I have never been so disgusted by her commentary and her ignorance of the issues and smear of the facts. She is ranting without having a clear eye of the actual issues. Disgusting. HCR even clarified that she doesn’t support murder if anyone so McGowan backed down. I feel sick and I have metastatic cancer so I’m not oblivious to these issues but I have enough sense to not celebrate or justify murder or mistake the issues. Disgusted.

I will tell you that this Podcast and the amazing guests she has are not only factual, informative and oh so educational but have made me step back and realize what I personally can do to help save our Democracy and yet be able to deal with the rough road ahead. Yes it will be, but it’s far from the end. From Churchill to Wyatt Earp these things have been going on, we are just in a new era of fight and not flight! Thank you for the hope snd knows this program has given me so that I may now step out of sadness to bring out that Italian girl who welcomes a good fight for what she believes in and shall never waiver from. Leigh McGowan gets the moment we are in, David Rothkopf does not. Rothkopf doesn’t get the big picture, therefore this interview was useless. DEMOCRATS MUST PLEASE PULL THEMSELVES TOGETHER AND REACT FASTER!!! Nancy Pelosi isn’t too old to do her job, she became unfit the moment her husband was attacked. It is one of the most awful things to come out of the right-wing hate machine, but it’s done now and it broke Nancy in a way that makes it impossible for her to serve. Stop reducing this down to ‘she is old’. If you misdiagnose the problems, you are never going to find the solutions. We need AOC to fill that role now and we need Nancy to either help or to get out of the way. Also, The Courts & Republican Senators: The Courts WILL NOT stop Trump, the only thing they can do is be used to slow him down. The Senators will capitulate. No one nominee matters, the only thing the Dems can do is expose the absurdity during the hearings, with the questions, get it all on record, then vote “present” for each nominee. Don’t vote yeah or neigh. This is Republican mess, we must leave them to it

In 2016 I read Thomas Jefferson’s explanation of a main responsibility of the electoral college: it is NOT to simple repeat what’s been done. Jefferson stressed that the college must prevent a demigod, even backed the public, from ever being allowed into the Office of President. They are the last safe guard against a dictatorship taking over America according to Jefferson. Why isn’t anyone currently in charge making sure this is done, taking it the Supreme Court (don’t laugh) if necessary.

I love your podcast, and agree with your sentiments entirely. I, too, am deeply concerned with the direction our country has taken. I’m a 76 yo veteran, worked as a court reporter for 35 years so I suppose you could consider me “deep state” whatever that means. I wonder if we’ll have midterm elections? I think the detention centers are for democrats, not immigrants. They will be called reeducation camps. Carry your birth certificate, I’m carrying a copy of my DD-214 (discharge papers). I’m forging a republican voter registration card. Making up a MAGA club and forging a membership card to said club. Don’r carry a gun. I hope we don’t have a bloody civil war. We have to fight back. If we capitulate, the trumpers will kill us.

It’s always a huge red flag when somebody can’t say one negative thing about their side, listen to independent thinkers who hold both sides to account not just party mouth pieces

I look forward to Leigh’s podcast every week - one of the few I follow consistently. I have learned so much and am so grateful for how she shows up and educates us about what is going on. I also find her “rants” very validating, when my mind is just boggled and outraged. Her values of compassion, justice, truth shine. So glad I have her to listen to in this trying time.

I just started listening to this podcast a couple of months before the 2024 presidential election. I am so impressed with Leigh McGowan’s passion and her deeply analytical analysis of contemporary politics. She doesn’t use theatrics and fear mongering as persuasion; rather, she states pleasant and unpleasant facts. Based on facts, the listener needs to make a personal decision on how important our country’s democratic institutions are, and what you are willing to do to value and protect them going forward. This is an absolutely crucial time in American politics where authoritarianism is on the rise domestically and globally. We need to act and not just lament about the state of political affairs. Thank you for being a beacon of light, reason and rationality, Leigh! Bravo!

Trust HC Richardson. She is a scholar of American history. Believe her warnings because, as she said, not only is our democracy on the line, the world’s political future is at risk if the radical right wing autocrats take the presidency and our government.

Lee is one of most astute political podcasters in the mix. I always appreciate hearing her take on the state of the country and the fight to defeat fascism and protect freedom, human rights and democracy. I think she is much better than the majority at clearly and straight-forwardly stating the grave risks that the freedom hating fascist Trump leadership coalition represents as well as how to defeat this dark force. Thanks Lee for the courageous hard work! I do not always agree, but I usually do, and always find your thoughts, analysis and perseverance to be valuable.
