    A Gen Z listener
Mr. VDH’s podcast is a fantastic way to start each day of the week, some people may decry the delay between breaking news and this show’s own publishing, but I find this feature endearing. Question: considering the current spat between Trump and Musk, the two are seasoned political operators; are they playing a charade to garner a wider political support (or other purpose), or are they indeed fighting without purpose?

    Tanks in WWII
VDH I enjoy your history and as I shared last week on my Twitter a local guy was a collection of WWII equipment including a M5 tank built by Cadillac. Talking to him I talked about some of your experiences about the tanks. He pointed out that on a Sherman to replace the transmission the guys in the field removed the front armor section and the transmission was there and they made the repair. And you’re right about the German Tiger it had to be hauled back to the factory because they had to remove the turret and tear the tank down to make the repair. And they lacked the numbers vs US forces. Thanks Victor and Sami for these great conversations and education Ps yes US auto makers on the Tanks built in reduced maintenance requirements in their war equipment like tanks. He said the track maintenance on the Sherman were 3000 miles more than the distance to Berlin from Normandy

    Love VDH
The Victor Davis Hanson Show is a must-listen for anyone seeking sharp, insightful commentary on politics, culture, and history. Hosted by the brilliant Victor Davis Hanson, a distinguished scholar and Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, the podcast is elevated by the engaging interplay of co-hosts Jack Fowler and Sami Winc. Hanson’s deep knowledge of classicism and historical conflicts shines through in every episode, offering listeners a rare blend of erudition and clarity. Whether he’s drawing parallels between ancient Greece and modern geopolitics or dissecting the roots of contemporary cultural trends, Hanson’s expertise makes complex ideas accessible and riveting. Jack Fowler, with his wit and grounded perspective as Director for the Center for Civil Society, keeps the discussions lively and relatable, often grounding Hanson’s scholarly insights with practical questions. Sami Winc complements this dynamic, bringing a keen eye for current events and California’s unique challenges, enriching the podcast’s scope. Their chemistry creates a conversational flow that feels like sitting in on a fascinating dinner table debate. From exploring the lessons of historical conflicts to unpacking today’s political flashpoints, this podcast is a treasure trove of wisdom and perspective. Five stars for Hanson, Fowler, and Winc!!

    VDH’s “Ed McMahon”
I love Jack! Jack is to VDH as Ed McMahon was to Johnny Carson; as Robin was to Batman. They’re a team. A Dynamic Duo!

Fair is Foul and Foul is Fowler
5/23/25 Must have walked into wrong classroom. I thought this was VDH's show. Instead it's Fowler drone-cast. The guy just won't stop prattling and interrupting with his half-wit interjections and unsolicited opinions. When he's not disrupting the flow of prof Hanson's important thoughts, or forestalling them with wholly unnecessary irksome prompts, Fowler's reading interminable ads in his insufferable atonal monotonous drone. Please make it stop. 4/22/25 Maybe the podcast should be renamed "The Jack Fowler Show" Between Mr Fowler's interminable reading of multiple ads, his longwinded, utterly superfluous, introductions & prompts to every question, and his irksome interruptions throughout, it seems Fowler takes up more air time than professor Hanson's commentary. Were it not for Fowler's excessive participation with a voice not made for Radio, VDH's podcast unquestionably would merit five stars. I try to listen on weekends only, when Sammi Winc is the co-host, just to avoid the sound of Jack Fowler's voice, which I find exceedingly disagreeable. 12/14/24 Jack's antics get fouler and fouler. He manages to make Professor Hanson's otherwise superb podcast unbearable. The superfluous interjections ("yeah," "right," "oh yeah!" etc.) disrupt and throw spanners into the poetry and logic of VDH's delivery. The obsequious giggling; the chortling; the garrulous prompts; the sound of heavy breathing: make it stop! Perhaps his voice would be less grating if half the recording did not consist of Fowler wheezing through interminable ads with irksome intonation and insufferable inflection. Businesses should insist on a non-grating voice talent for the ads they pay for. 12/3/24 I may need to limit listening to weekend editions w Sami. Jack Fowler is a smart, talented writer with many gifts. Serving as co-host to the great VDH, however, is not his forte, in my opinion. His monosyllabic interjections -- e.g., "yeah"; "heh heh heh heh"; "ug"; "right"; "right"; "right"; &c. --are quite disruptive. He must be unaware that he's ruining the rhythm of Prof Hanson's expositions, and thereby spoiling the listening experience. How disappointing and unpleasant it is to hear VDH's mellifluous commentary so frequently pillaged by meaningless exclamations. The long prompts preceding each topic seem to grow ever longer. Why not just say something like, "Please tell us your thoughts about _____." No one needs the interminable introductions and explanations. I get the sense from other reviews that my irritation w JF is shared by many. These problems are easily remedied. I hope Mr Fowler will heed the suggestions of many reviewers and curtail his commentary to let the professor speak! 11/26 I know a lot of reviewers complain about Mr. Fowler's garrulousness, but I will not mention that in a review, as it would be disrespectful to a fine intellect and writer. (Practicing my rhetorical devices, haha) 2) Jack Fowler (10/17/24 show) referenced a hearing in the appeal of New York's property-appraisal case against President Trump. Mr. Fowler said the hearing took place in the "high court" of New York. If he's referring to the hearing on Sept 24, 2024, he's mistaken. That hearing took place in the Appellate Division, which is the mid-level appellate court. The "high court" in New York is the Court of Appeals. (For reasons too tedious to explain, the trial court, the lowest level in the hierarchy, is called, absurdly, in my view, the "Supreme Court.")

    VDH Pronunciation Guide
God bless Victor Davis Hanson. For those newcomers to his podcasts, here is a handy pronunciation guide: When Victor says “Hike ‘em Jeffries,” he means Hakeem Jeffries. When he says “M-13,” he means MS-13. Similarly: “Leteeta James” = Letitia James “Juicy Smollett” = Jussie Smollett “Nucular” = Nuclear “CaMELLA Harris” = Kamala Harris “Pacific Palisides” = Pacific Palisades “could care less” = could not care less “Vladistovok” = Vladivostok “Darnells” = Dardanelles “Beyonc” = Beyoncé “Physical” = Fiscal “Excretement” = Excrement

Love the show, Victor, Jack and Sami you guys are the best! Just FYI, the audio on Apple podcast is not clear, doesn’t keep me from enjoying the show, but it may for some. Thank you, this show is a national treasure.

Great Podcast, but ists almost half ads
VDH is a national treasure but this show is so saturated with ads it’s almost unlistenable. It’s like once VDH gets into a groove, it’s “time to take a break for BBQ grills!!!” Please reduce the ads or offer a paid tier which is happily buy to not listen to the ad copy. I don’t even know any other podcast with this amount of ad ratio. Can you offer and ad free paid product?

    Simply Extraordinary
It is hard to express how good Dr. Hanson show is. So, I would just say that I dropped almost all other podcasts-without naming names-for this one . Dr. Hanson has a great ability to condense very complex and up to date information into clear and coherent explanations. Thanks so much for all the hard work that goes into making this work. And thanks to Jack and Sami; you are great moderators. Dr. Hanson has been at the vanguard of today’s relevant issues, as immigration and the derailment of the universities. Having finished Mexifornia and Who Killed Homer? I am truly astounded about Dr. Hanson prescience. On a separate note, I have an ambitious goal to read the most relevant Greek and Roman works. Any suggestions as to the order and authors is appreciated.

    Japan in 1940
Always enjoy Such a pleasure to hear Victor every day. I offer one factual correction: the Japanese did not invade the Dutch East Zinfies until early 1942, after Pearl Harbor. Had they already taken those Shell oil folded, the American threat of an oil embargo would have meant little rather than being so serious that it moved them to attack..

I wish I knew VDH, had him as a teacher and friend. Wonderful human. Wonderful man. But, Terminate your engineer. Microphone back ground noise was awful today. How could the engineer let the show go out like that.

    Victory at Sea
Been enjoying Victor since he first appeared on John Batchelor show many, many years ago; never miss an episode now with Jack and Sami. I laughed today (May 8) when Victor and Jack was reminiscing on our limitations of TV in late 50s/early 60s. I caught him mentioning the war documentary shows. For the one about the Navy, wasn’t it “Victory at Sea”?. Keep up the good work gentlemen!

    I beg to differ
Prof Hanson Regarding the Vietnam war . I believe you stated your generation was responsible for the failure of that war Non sense! From the books The Wise Men by Walter Isaacson and The Best and Brightest by David Halbersam the planning and failure of that war was from holdovers from WWII. Not my generation. I am 76 . Please do not place that catastrophe on my shoulders . My generation had enough to be held responsible for without that added burden. Respectfully Bruce, Grand Rapids, MI.

    Canadas Election
Hello Mr. Hanson I’ve been waiting for your analysis on the election. I agree with you as a dual citizen of Canada/US. I would politely remind you that not long ago you said Trump would help the liberal get elected. My immediate family lives in Ontario and two months ago went from liking the idea of the 51st state because of the currency increase to fast forward two wks ago frightened that Trump would have them arrested while visiting me. Trump’s rhetoric imo has given the corrupt media in CANADA the winning message to drive home a liberal win. That’s all it took. Poilivere focused on domestic issues while Carnage and the MP’s focused on the corrupt media message.

Thank you for this straight forward commentary
Thank you for your show. My son recommended it. I am a native CA who calls northeast Ohio my home. Originally, a Valley Girl but too old to talk like one. Though this isn’t a review I wonder if you have tried lymphatic massage to help with your sinuses. I benefited from it following surgery and my OT lymphedema specialist told me about how she has helped many with chronic sinusitis. It’s worth a try. From an almost 71 yr old.

For the Person(s) Complaining about Advertising
Hi Victor, I just found out how to Rate your Show. I have given you and your Team 5 Stars. Just had to scroll down a bit on the page. As far as Advertising, on either side of Pause/Play Button one can either go forward 30 seconds if they don’t want to hear the advertisement, or back 15 seconds in case you missed something Victor said. You are the Best! Regards, Capt. Ed Spelling, punctuation, and Grammar errors are the fault of my Phone.

Significant increase in commercials makes it unbearable.
As of 4-22-25, there are so many commercials it is unbearable. It is certainly distracting. You are better than this. Been an avid listener for several years. Recent comments by the host suggest a significant uptick in listeners, so congratulations. The increase in commercials seems to be a greedy monetization grab to make quick money at your long term fan’s expense. I’m leaving for a while with hopes that it goes back to the old format.

    Victor’s Uncle Victor
Dear Victor, I listen to your podcast religiously! Appreciate how you translate current events and provide historical context to every conversation. In a recent podcast you referenced Uncle Victor was killed in Okinawa. My great-uncle John was killed at the Battle of the Bulge (he is buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery). I was able to obtain a reproduction of his individual deceased personnel file from the National Archives. He died immediately after we (Patton’s 3rd Army) crossed the Rhine. I worked with a gentleman named George at NARA and the file was sent to me quickly. If you want to find out more about Uncle Victor, NARA can help. My best to you, Jack, and the great Sami Winc!

    Accept No Substitutes
One of the finest minds in podcasting. VDH delivers his keen insights without the hectoring of other conservative voices in this space. He delivers his message with humility and grace. One complaint: 7 minutes of advertising @ the top of the show before we get to the conversation? That should be adjusted. It’s intrusive.

    The Lost Appeal: Stereotypes
Mr. Hanson: As I heard you comment on your podcast today with Mr. Fowler (04/17/2025), almost apologizing for a stereotypical observation, I remembered an experience I had several years ago. From an anthropological and historical point of view, stereotyping is a “tool of survival”. In my opinion, it is natural and we do not have to apologize for implementing such observations. About 15 years ago, my sister, brother-in-law and I were returning to Oakland on BART from a S.F. Giants game about midnight. A kind Black lady working late at the BART station looked at the only three “white” folks in the station and asked, “Where are you going?” We replied, “We were planning to walk to the Jack London Hotel”. She smiled and said, “You may want to call a cab…” It was so noted and appreciated.

Your Victor Davis Hanson podcast on utube
You’re one of the people along with Steven kotkin that I always tune into…my top favorite author is Marshall McLuhan who wrote a lot including ‘war and peace in the global village ‘ I wish he had a podcast. I’m grumpy because of the current geopolitical discussion since it never gets down to the nitty gritty which is to say the long history of the Turkish Straits, Bosporus and Dardanelles. See “WHATS IN THE BOX” on utube .it deals with the whole enchilada….whole nine yards…I started thinking about it when I first heard about the fact that Romania has an actual navy. Which refers to the fact that Russia doesn’t want any part of a world that could easily? Disrupt its tankers. I’m grumpy. I’ll end here and will write more if you wish. I’m sure we share a lot in the world of experience. I’m 80 years old…. Later

    Submarine danger
Just a thought. A few podcasts back you seemed to underrate a diesel powered submarine. Once submerged they are virtually impossible to detect. The Soviet Foxtrot was a real threat during the Cold War due to their stealth. I wouldn’t underrate a Chinese diesel boat too quickly. This from a Cold War submarine veteran who faced the Foxtrots. Great podcasts every time!

Great insight and a lot of commercials
VDH is great and always provides a well reasoned and articulated response to political matters. I enjoy listening to his analysis. I find the commercial breaks grating but I get it. It’s a subscription free podcast and he’s gotta eat too. So I grin and bear it.
