Good For A Girl

120

Join Courtney LaPlante, vocalist of Spiritbox, for her latest project - Good For A Girl. This podcast is an inside look at the realities and challenges of being a woman in the music industry, especially the metal scene - which has been male-dominated for a long time and still is today.

Through conversations with Musicians, Radio DJs, Record Executives, and more Courtney explores how their personal experiences of gender inequality influenced and shaped them as they navigated their way along difficult career paths. Because as a woman working in metal, nothing comes easy.

Each episode gives behind-the-scenes insight on how the music industry operates and what life is really like for working musicians. There’s also lots of advice for other women who are struggling to carve out their own path in traditionally male-domainated spaces. With plenty of stories and laughs along the way, Good For A Girl represents a defiant middle finger to the patriarchy.

So join Courtney as she uncovers why each one of her guests are good, for a girl.

    Can’t wait to hear more.
I’ve been looking for a podcast like this for so long. Courtney is insanely talented and to be able to hear her interview people in the metal industry is so sick. Overall stoked on this podcast.

    So far, so great
Really enjoying this show, so far (only three episodes released). Courtney is a phenomenal vocalist/singer in her main vocation and her conversations on the podcast are very natural. Hope to hear more road stories as time goes on, as well.

    Blessed Be This Podcast
Whether if this matters, you can be the judge. I’m writing this review from the context of a young, black man who, in light of a podcast like this, loudly and proudly affirms women in leadership roles and loves watching glass ceilings being shattered. I’m also writing this review as a metal-head who loves the music that Spiritbox creates and puts out. Anyway, moving forward. I’ve received an immense amount of joy getting to listen to Courtney, her perspectives, and her experiences, and likewise from her guests so far. In one sense, I’ve loved getting to know the “behind the scenes” of the bands I listen to, which Courtney has been doing a fantastic job at thus far for Spiritbox in her podcast. It helps me love and appreciate said bands and their music that much more, if anything. In another sense, I’ve also loved listening to the experiences Courtney and her guests share that they’ve had (are having) in the music industry. Quite frankly, it’s been both encouraging and frustrating sitting with the conversations she and her guests have. In my belief, it’s encouraging in that Courtney is creatively using her platform for both herself and her guests to voice their experiences, which I believe will (and most likely already is) encourage others to do as well. What’s more is that she does so in a very candid, humble, and transparent way. It’s also been frustrating because, as Courtney details, a number of these experiences have been sexist. I about blew a gasket when Courtney was telling a story about how she was told that she’s “good for a girl” at what she does. Despite the fact that we’re in changing times where there’s a number of women who hold leadership roles- as Francesca said in her interview, “I am the flagpole”- there are still a number of people (I’ll safely say men) who hold women as second-class and less-than. All of this to say, thank you for what you’re doing, Courtney. I’m beyond excited for this podcast takes you, your band, and your guests. To those perusing reviews and thinking about listening, just go ahead and do it. You’ll thank me later. Blessed be this podcast!

    Greatness!!
Courtney displays a natural ability to draw a person in, whether it be with her vocal ability in a musical sense, or her ability to bring out the best in people in an interview setting. Two episodes in and I’m hooked. Also Spiritbox should be EVERYONES favorite band by this point!! Do yourself a favor and enjoy all that Courtney is! Much Love and Respect...

    FINALLY 🙌
I am a beginner entrepreneur metal chick that is managing my very first metal band which involves: social media marketing / website maintenance/ networking etc. I have been waiting for SO long for something like this to be created because it’s not easy doing this stuff without someone other than myself being there to motivate me or give me encouragement to keep moving forward. Thank you for making this podcast! I can’t wait for more episodes! ✨🤘✨

    Excellent show!
It was great to hear from Courtney and her perspective and experience but also informative to hear from Caity. I listen to them both but in different capacities and it was cool to see their roles reversed. Both are very positive and encouraging. My husband and I listened together and both enjoyed it. Really looking forward to more episodes with women we know and love, the industry and great advice!
