Cruising the Movies is a new monthly podcast and screening series at IFC Center in New York from the creators of Ask Any Buddy. In each episode, Elizabeth Purchell and KJ Shepherd take a look at a different film from the fringes of queer cinema history. Through interviews, archival sources, and conversations with filmmakers, critics, and historians, this podcast and screening series will uncover how cinema is inextricable from queer history at large.

Boys in the Sand is Grand
Terrific, insightful review of one of the most famous gay erotic films in cinema history. The making of the Boys in the Sand and the impact it had on the participants, audiences and adult film industry are thoroughly explored.

I am grateful Ask Any Buddy (podcast and movie) honors gay adult film history. Very Important and needed.

    Queer history, previously unheard
I can’t emphasize strongly enough how important this podcast - and Elizabeth Purchell’s entire Ask Any Buddy project - is to queer history. For the most part, in the 1960s and ‘70s, the only queer films being made were in fact pornography, and this podcast is in the process of examining 100+ of said films. The research and writing involved is incredible, the vibe is very conversational, and it’s never not entertaining. A must-listen.

As someone who’s not very familiar with film In general I thought it’d be interesting to listen to such a niched subject but instead of feeling out of my depth I was introduced to thoughtful commentary by the two hosts who are just as interested in the art of the film as much as where it stands in history and how it fits into it. Overall a fun and interesting podcast.

A fun, informative and important podcast!
It’s like having director’s commentaries on the dvds of your favorite porn films. Informed, well-researched, entertainingly presented investigations of seminal porn films with a great selection of quotes from reviews and interviews involving the original stars and auteurs. If only Netflix or some enterprising streaming service would produce a weekly series....well, I can dream can’t I?

    Fun, interesting, smart
Big fat money shot of now mostly forgotten LGBTQ history and media criticism. Important work and just plain enjoyable.

    Just what I needed
Really fantastic analysis. Comforting to learn some queer history and dwell on some of the terminology. Certainly relieves some sources of shame.
