‘Ohia LoveBring the past to life!Tristan’s enthusiasm is infectious, as are many of his guests. Ancient civilizations, archaeology, paleoanthropology, paleontology. His podcasts always inspire to learn more.

No issues at allHave Found My History Podcast!Tristan the host is a brilliant and knowledgeable interviewer, asking great questions and leading the conversation sensibly, the experts are highly qualified and offer exceptional insight, and the topics themselves are endlessly fascinating. Trying to work through all 500+ episodes and learning so much. This is the most spectacular history podcast i’ve come across.

Savannah2532Fave Commuting PodcastThis is a great podcast for rotating content, never fails to entertain me on long commutes to work and home.

Ike874Nice podcast, annoying adsI like this podcast, but “adult” ads for things that I don’t want to listen about make me not want to bother since it means I can’t listen in mixed company. I find some of their content, really insightful and amazing. But I think they should be more judicious in how they allow for ads

Friends with PodsMy favorite history podcast!Always interesting and I always learn something new. Thanks Tristan! You also have a great rapport with your guests. 😇

docjkmFrustratingly OKOften weak in presentation, lacking in cohesion and clarity. Presenter Tristan is erstwhile yet inept, and really the main impediment to the success of the endeavor. Unfortunate. Guests are uneven in quality and value to the podcast. An enduring bit of a mess.

Marie DorothyThe IliadI’m just going to say it…if your “expert opinion” on what the main lesson is that readers should take away from one of the oldest classics ever to be written is “let’s fight climate change” rather than the dangers of rage or the importance of honor or personal sacrifice or the gears of war or what makes a leader or how respect is everything, or the value of friendship, then you’re a FOOL…& no “expert” at all. Plain & Simple. The last quote the “expert” gave was “let’s save our planet” followed by a climate change book plug asking people to buy her book on how the Iliad can teach us about climate change. By far the most disappointing episode The Ancients has ever put together. Wow.

WilderLeadTristan HughesAcademic learning is much more quality when partakers share passion or enthusiasm. Great attitude and execution from the host for a knowledge environment, I think it helps every guest really unload their thoughts and knowledge. Willing to tackle topics from all across the board too.

Vintage Is BestHistory Comprehensive Yet UnderstandableThis is a fascinating show. The host has an unbelievable facility to ask the questions I am thinking about and he has an amazing knowledge base. The guests are well spoken - none over use the word “like” as a placeholder ( nothing is more irritating than hearing the word like in every other sentence). I have never been bored listening to any episode. And my curiosity has been peaked so much I do more research on my own often purchasing books written by the guests. Excellent show - well done!

288 West 1Concerned with US AdsFantastic informative pod. Hosts guide discussions with expertise. Commercial ad are loud and lately have introduced politically charged content. “Heartbeat starts at 18 days from conception “ wth

WtfsteveConsistently entertaining and informativeIncredible knack for positioning. Orchestrates the defense while remaining capable of launching an attack up either flank. Once logged 19 consecutive clean sheets.

Dark knight freakAresThe best Greek mythology, out there.

ParaMedsThe Ancients 👍I’m not a scholar or historian. Just a nurse who is fascinated by ancient history. The Ancients is my favorite spot on the web for all things ancient history. Tristan is a great host and the guests he interviews are top notch. Highly recommend The Ancients.
-
MA4YJ2NE0:)Good to intolerableThe loud commercials & high subscription fee killed this pod. Listener before subscriptions were available & before all the loud commercials. Moving on to better free content, very unfortunate.

@r$3nalArsenal AmericanI love history and I have anxiety this podcast helps both

heylookanewreviewThe Chinese Zodiac “expert”Why not get someone who is a primary expert in the Chinese zodiac for the Chinese Zodiac episode? John Steele knows his Babylonian zodiac just fine but kept saying everything of the Chinese zodiac was difficult to explain. It heavily lowered my faith in the expertise on this show.

TIMTIPTON1AwesomeThank you! Another great show!

EG924Love all the topics and guests!I love your show and listening to all the topics you cover. Tristan’s a wonderful host and the conversations are rarely dull. I’ve learned so much and always look forward to the next topic. Thank you for showing the ancient part of our history some love and providing such a great podcast to cover it all!

swonderFills in the GapsIf you have an interest in ancient history but your knowledge is spotty, The Ancients is on target for you. Tristian Hughes is delightful and he does a great job carrying the convo forward.
-
djbvk21Best POD CastTristen has the best voice and is so knowledgeable. Has amazing guests like Natalie especially speaking on Greek mythology. Thank you.
-
rev-jek33Stick with TristenGreat show when Tristen hosts it. Other host talks too much and tries to too hard to be hip or cute

Shelley in TexasThe amazing Dr. Lucy Shipley! It is such an incredible pleasure to listen to an expert that is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject!! Dr. Lucy Shipley is one of my favorite guests that have ever been on this podcast!!! I love the way she spoke about history and the stories that she shared that had intimate detail details!! Please have Dr. Lucy Shipley back on your podcast! 🙏♥️

Squirrel ShenanigansEpisode 163Interesting episode. Author of Bonfire of the Vanities was Tom Wolfe, btw.

KentuckyRobert!!!!Awesome Inuit show!!
-
Sunny smlMacrinus episodeThe host kept saying “What an interesting story” when it was not interesting at all.
-
Chey.mullHistory/archeology nerd!!As someone who has a dream of one day becoming an archeologist, I find this podcast outstanding! I am learning so many new things that I never knew I needed to learn about. There are some topics I wish would get more air time, but overall this is an excellent, informative, and wonderfully done podcast!!
-
ekconwayJodi Magness bias is unfortunateAbsolutely love Tristan Hughes’ curiosity and the exciting educational journey he takes us on with the wonderful guests of this show! I have been researching Israel/Palestine for context on the trauma currently occurring in this part of the world, and this podcast has been extremely helpful. I am a bit frustrated having to listen to *another* interview with Jodi Magness on this topic however. The way she presents biased assumptions as fact, with occasional comments such as “I should say, some of this is controversial…” is annoying at best, but extremely harmful to the discovery of dynamic and honest perspective. I have been so impressed with the absolute wealth of knowledge other guests present with clarity and humility — seemingly unencumbered religious or political dogma. Thank you!

grannyartemishappypandaGreat podcastVery much a favorite. Especially well produced are the Egyptian gods series. The myths at the beginning of those five episodes are spellbinding, related by a consummate storyteller with eerily gorgeous voice, accent, and cadences.
-
Bldh92The Best!Truly the best historical podcast out there. Love Triston and his guests he chooses. I’m here in the states. Wish I could hear him and a guest live!

harpsforjoyThe Ancients: The Fall of Roman BritainThis was a great Pod. I hope that Tristian has these two guests on again. They made this time period really relatable and interesting!
-
TrickybffQuality PodcastHands down, this is my favorite podcast. Every episode is a treat. Tristan does such a fantastic job selecting the broad subject matter and the interviewees. The depth of detail is always perfect: deep enough to be incredibly informative and interesting, yet never so deep as to be overladen with facts. It’s spot-on!
-
BlaseRasGreat podcastLove this podcast, really enjoyed the Siren episode, another modern interpretation of sirens that differentiates them from mermaids is that Sinbad animated movie, it depicts sirens as women actually made of water, there’s a clip on youtube. It also had a cool depiction of Eris in it.
-
rafegoldbergDecent podcastGood enough content to subscribe (when they aren’t doing weird promotions for video games and Snow isn’t preening his historical plumage.) But what is truly frustrating to is to PAY for something, as I do this podcast, and STILL nonetheless have to fast forward through ads and idiotic sponsored content. That’s gonna be a one star from me, dawg. Figure out your feed.
-
Cm9S_0Shoehorning of Politics is UnbearableHosting quacks who denying Mayan & Aztec human sacrifice. An episode on cats from a man who sounds like he’s on benzos attacking JD Vance. Ahistorical and woke, what absolute garbage.
-
Tori.DNew listenerI have to be honest, I started listening to fall asleep at night, but I’d start listening and I’d get really into the topic. I’ve scrolled way bask to very old episodes and love them all so much! You got yourself a new subscriber 🙌🏼💯🎉
-
RAKGBA deep dive into ancient historyThe Ancients covers a wide variety of topics and eras via interviews of excellent scholars who have interesting, and sometimes controversial, points of view. It's one of my go-to podcasts and I'm rarely disappointed. I just wish the tech team would stop interrupting the conversation. Ads are fine, but not in the middle of a sentence!
-
eddieG9999Excellent wide range of subjects and subject matter expertsEnjoy the wide wide range of topics and the wide range of experts speaking on them. One of the best podcasts!!! What a joy!
-
seal santaTristen! Epic Roman Victories!Keep up the great work subscribe just for this show love the longer format episodes and Greek Hellenistic Roman stuff. Army logistics and engineering are always interesting what’s the deal with that craved road into the side of a mountain by a river in Dacia? Wish the best!
