HVHammerhandsEpisode suggestionAwesome channel in so many ways! Thank you!! How about an episode on the kits and the moving/spinning drum solo hardware used by Tommy Lee?
-
zrealmoqzoBest, drumming, podcast! This is the best drumming podcast I have ever heard! I just found it several months ago and it is addicting. I come away feeling much smarter after each episode! Keep up the great work, Bart.

Single stroke 5So good👍👍
-
CooperplaysdrumsSo great! This podcast is super helpful for understanding more about drums and nerding out about cool history. The guests are great too! It’s funny, when I followed Drum History Podcast on Instagram, all the other drummers I follow are fans too!
-
figbasketMore female drummer content plz!I very much appreciate this podcast! As a female drummer, I would really love/be very interested in more topics involving female drummers/more female guests. Two topics I’d personally love: history of Tom Tom magazine (even though the guest on the “history of drum magazines” episode did not mention Tom Tom, I appreciated Bart noting he sought to do an episode on it) + a history of female drummers during the riot grrrl/90s era.
-
drum2lawGreat podcast for every drummerLots of us play drums because we love the gear. I subscribe to a few drum podcasts, but Drum History is the only one that provides the deep dive into the gear. Bart is a great host. The episodes are always interesting.
-
jbb.333Enjoyable EnoughEnjoyable podcast with a host that seems to know little about drum or music history. Maybe he’s doing this to learn along the way? He speaks in general terms, often just repeating back or reacting to points his guests make. It often sounds like he has not researched the topics to any real degree. It would be nice to hear him ask more informed questions. All of this said, he has great guests and fun topics.

robbiethedrummerAbsolute Must Listen For All DrummersGrowing up as a kid in Chicago during the late 60s I was fortunate enough to be around when brands like Ludwig and Slingerland were at the forefront of the drumming industry. I’m the kid who stripped his entire Ludwig kit and packed the lugs with cotton so the springs wouldn’t buzz. Hearing stories from some of the industry’s top manufacturers and drum geeks is an absolute delight, and even though I’ve played DW drums for nearly 30 years I learned many insights and behind the scene stories from founder Don Lombardi that I’ve never heard before. Being a manufacturer of a drumstick company called SHAKERSTIX these industry pros have given me so much insight and encouragement to keep plugging along and producing the only egg shaker drumstick on the market. Every episode I’ve listened to thus far gets a A+, great job Bart, absolutely love what your doing

Wary and awareInsightful and engagingDefinitely my favorite drum podcast! Educational and engaging, anyone who loves drums and the evolution of our instrument will find it interesting and well worth their while. Great work Bart!
-
DrumPhil65The world of drumsIf you play drums or just find drums and drummers interesting then you will really enjoy this show. Bart and his guests open the doors to the wide world of drumming and make it fun to learn the context that makes it all possible. This is NOT thinly disguised promotional material; it is genuine information sharing by folks who love what they are talking about. Great stuff!
-
YoYoBuddy888A treasure for drummersBart has introduced me to so many artists, companies, and concepts in drumming. He has such fantastic guests, asks great questions, and also does a great job tying everything all together in a really pleasant listening experience. Thank you, Bart!!!
-
clertuWonderful. This is a really great podcast. It’s fascinating and enlightening and I think it would be really interesting for people who may not even be drummers or even not interested in being one.
-
NoorigThis is what drummers have needed for a long time.Brad is an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and inquisitive host. The choice of topics are deep and entertaining. Suggestion for a program for me is the drummers of New York 1950-1970. Panama Francis, Buzzy Drootin, Bernard Purdie, Mel Lewis, Grady Tate etc. were busy and productive on the NY scene and someone must have stories of that time. Of course a West Coast drummers program would also be great.
-
jimmy fanTo love drums is to love drum historyReally enjoining this more than I expected to. The host brings knowledge, experience and humor. The topics are fascinating and brings greater pleasure to the instruments themselves. Keep up the great work!
-
seanlaffertySuch an addictive showI love this show and I can’t say enough about it. So much knowledge and history with an amazing host. @seanlaffertydrums

marchsong7Fascinating & educationalBart has really developed his knack of being able to bring out the best in an interview. An interview may start a bit slower, but hang around and you’ll find it becoming interesting in ways you couldn’t have seen coming. If you get hooked like I did, don’t miss out on the older episodes-they are pure gold.
-
Lotechie MoAlways learn somethingIt took me a few episodes to really get into it, but time after time I take a lot of interesting tidbits from this podcast. Hearing more about the inside industry stuff, and back stories on how and why companies evolved, just top notch.
-
RHTrioAwesome!!With a great plethora of information, a intriguing goldmine to be had for all that listen!!
-
singingdrummerLOVE this podcast!Great mix of topics and guests. The best!!
-
Hatshepsut's phoneYou make me LOVE history!I just finished the first episode on the history of the “trap” set. Ha, from the “contraption”, who knew? Also, the story behind percussionist and noisemakers was so fascinating. As a youth, I was big into Mel Blank’s and Warner Brothers cartoon sound effects, shortly followed by Syfy audibles, sounds and noises. This episode really opened up a lot as far as the creativity, specificity and variability behind the art sound effect tools. You’ve got me hooked. Great podcast concept. I can hardly wait to dig into the other episodes. Thank you for doing the research and making us aware of the wonderfully interesting history of the drum!
-
katieee89Great!This podcast is fantastic! I never leave reviews but I will this time. There’s other great drum podcasts but this one is a perfect combination of my interest in both drums and history. The topics are all interesting and really varied and it’s easy to listen to. Thanks for livening up my commute ~
-
Strange Animals PodcastAmazing!I don't usually like interview format podcasts, but this one's so good I look forward to every new episode! The host is pleasant to listen to, knows his stuff, and gets fantastic interviewees. I've enjoyed every single episode and I've learned a lot about the history of our crazy instrument.

Drum City BobHuge Fan of the Drum History PodcastAs a life long drummer and huge fan of drum history, I want to thank Bart For bringing the Drum History Podcast to life. Drums and drummers have such a compelling history, but not enough people know the stories. Thank you Bart and I look forward to many more podcasts. Drum City Bob
-
CW DrummerBest out thereI am an old timer having played for nearly 52 years. I love this pod cast! I have learned so much and really enjoy hearing Bart van der Zerbe leads the interview in an open and interesting manor keeping the listener engaged! Every drummer young and old can learn something from this podcast. As a retired band director and percussion instructor, this is a must for just pure reference. I have gained so much information, information that I didn’t even know was available!
-
Abby19888888888888888888AwesomeSuper interesting material, even for a non-musician like me. Check it out! 🤙🏻
-
ethangscottGet Cultured SonNo matter what industry you are in, it’s always beneficial to know the history. Too many drummers don’t know of who and what has come before them, and this show does a great job at solving that problem
-
c nailDrum HistoryGreat shows... can’t wait for what’s to come next. Keep it up
-
bbrosaLove the diversityLove the diversity of topics!! Drums have such an interestng history . And, love the range of presenter and topics !!
-
BlusdrumerHistory of drumsticks podcastMay I suggest a follow up to the history of drumsticks. Your guest acknowledged his lack of academic credentials early in the show and that was the right thing to do. I feel that so much was not covered. What about the history of African and Caribbean drummers and their use of sticks and other implements? And the fact that the origninal nylon tips were done differntly and did not work as well. Also didn't Vater make sticks for other companies early on? Why was hickory chosen as the wood of choice for drumsticks? Perhaps you can get a guest from one of the stick companies to join you for a follow up. I love the podcast but this was a weak episode.
-
KaylaJean519Amazing Podcast...The historical aspect of drumming is not lost thanks to this podcast and it's wonderful guests. The host Zac has a great knack for making you feel apart of the conversation. My only regret is that this podcast isn't 100 deep. I discovered it a week ago and I've already devoured all of the episodes. Great Work Zac!!!
-
NotBRichWell done!!This series really fills out your understanding of the instrument, the companies, the brands - and how we got to where we are over the last 100 years. Thank you!
