If you’re interested in adding a real word interaction while learning about ham radio this is for you. Not only do they offer technical information but also by going “off topic” they make it feel more like sitting around a table and talking with family. On the technical aspect don’t worry Josh is an engineer but not like a vegan engineer (always telling us how he knows his stuff) he’s got enough crayons to explain this to us like we are toddlers without being rude. Leah is the one who lets be honest adds personality and makes it a humorous get together. Between the YouTube channel, podcast, and discord I’ve racked up technician, general, and halfway through studying for my extra. Thank you guys for all the hard work and effort it takes to put this together. I always am waiting for the notification of a new episode and hope there’s many more to come.

    Exceptional and Real Life Radio
Long time listener and first ever podcast review. Having listened for about a year, and caught up back to 2022, I can say that this is one of the best (though sometimes long 🤣) podcasts I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. The mixture of ham radio and real life issues gives this podcast a balance that is enjoyable to listen to whether I’m driving, working or just piddling in the shack. Keep up the good work and I look forward to many more years of listening and laughing. 73’s Dave, WA4OPE.

    One of my Favorites!
I discovered this podcast after watching tons of HRCC YouTube videos and catching a few Saturday night live streams—I haven’t missed an episode since! Josh and Leah take time out of their very busy schedule to record this show, and I truly appreciate that. The podcast covers a mix of topics, ranging from family and municipal politics to preparedness and radio. As a self-admitted HRCC fanboy, I eagerly await each episode drop. Thank you, Josh, for all facets of HRCC, and more importantly, thank you, Leah, for not only joining us on this podcast but also for supporting Josh in the HRCC endeavor. 73, KQ4ZLX (Tyler)

    More then Ham
I passed my technician in January and wanted to dive into all things Ham radio. After finding a video of Josh showing how Technicians can do POTA I looked more into HRCC and found the podcast. It was a roller coaster of emotions during my first listen. I was expecting all Ham and got a story that started with a holiday parade and ended with a Swat team. I almost bailed on the whole podcast when I was forced to hear about Z is for Zachariah but after a few minutes I was hooked and needed to know how this terrible movie was going to be ranked. I’m currently going back and listening to older episodes and will be pretty disappointed when I run through them all and I’ll have to wait for a new one to drop. 70 3’s KB2POB

Top of the heap for ham radio podcasts
Great show that balances technical info as well as how ham interfaces with other aspects of life (preparedness, film, culture).

    Solid Podcast
Josh and Leah bring a wide variety of great points related to amateur radio from an unbiased point of view. They mix in some non-radio related topics which make it interesting for my wife (when I make her listen) and I appreciate Leah’s Preparedness Corner. I like how regardless of the topic of discussion, they almost always find a way to relate it back to radio. With all subjects they discuss they bring comedy into it and always keep things level and real! I love the show! 73- K8RTS

    Great job both of you
Well I finally was able to check out the last two podcasts. Long time follower of Josh. HRCC YouTube channel helped me get my Technician license. Last week got my General ticket. So exploring HF more and more. I like hearing the Extra questions and maybe will start studying for it. Just is great you and Leah are doing this together. 73 KD9YSW

    Updated Review
I just noticed your reply to my one star review. Ok, I was a. little harsh. I guess your explanation about Douglas Adams is ok, and yes Andor is very good. Honestly I found your podcast looking to get more into amateur radio, and got hooked hearing Lea's laugh. I appreciate all your work to share ham radio, preparedness info. and other random stuff, even the movie reviews. You are both great, though of course Lea's laugh accounts for a few of the stars. I teach electronics /automation/ computers/ networking, and have a General license. I use wireless for industrial applications, drones and rc with students, and teaching. I have not done much ham stuff, but you both inspire me to get more active with the amateur world! ======. old review below ======= Douglas Adams doesn’t seem British and “star wars “ acolyte featuring lesbian space witches looks great? Is this movies for morons?

    Leah makes the Podcast
Let’s face it. We could get Josh’s input on a better platform. The real gift of the HRCC podcast is the addition of his wife, Leah. Her perspectives as an outsider to ham radio enlivens the show and provides valuable perspective on how the rest of the world views us radio nerds. Thank you, Leah, for your time and input. Of course, the interaction of the couple is frequently entertaining, so I guess Josh isn’t totally useless! ; ) -The Travelin’ Ham

The best mix of real life and the ham world
I came across this podcast while studying for my tech ham exam, and looking for fellow hams in CA with online content that was relevant to where I live. Through the podcast I found Josh’s other content and all of the pieces of the ham world connected to him. I have not only learned a plethora of ham knowledge, but I have also found “my people” of the ham world…busy bee parents of grade school kids trying to find the balance between personal hobbies and real life, where kids and all of their activities come first and our hobbies come at night into the wee hours of the morning 😅 I can relate to almost every single word connected to their family life antics and I’m constantly smiling and laughing along with them. Thank you Josh and Leah! Love it!

    Ham Radio and Life
This podcast is educational and fun. Each episode contains a specific topic as well as ham adjacent ones with a lot of banter between the husband and wife duo. I like the mixture and it’s very entertaining for my non ham husband. I really enjoy hearing how ham radio fits in their daily lives especially in scouting. Keep up the good work.
  • Fathate
    Misleading
Josh alone could carry a podcast, even though his topics are broad and aim more for consensus than to prove a point. But the show is derailed by his wife interrupting and then meandering, and him being too afraid of her to keep the show focused. At this point the HAM technical blurbs are a distraction from the meat of the show, which is Leia’s firehose of midwit recycled Reddit social commentary.

    Casual mode
I’ve submitted a review before, so feel free to skip this dup. But I listened a couple times to the last episode, and I’m pretty sure Josh said he’s going to take a cell phone to jamboree (?) to make some contacts (in a remote area). It is this out-of-the-box/insane type of thinking (plus Leah’s infectious laugh) that keep me coming back. I got my extra upgrade since my last review but still enjoy practicing test questions with Leah on your show.

The best long car ride podcast
On long car rides my entire family falls asleep. That leaves me time to enjoy your ham radio and emergency preparedness topics. You are educational end entertaining. Thank you for producing such great content

Less than 5 star reviews just don’t get you!
Is it wrong that I scrolled through all the reviews, ignored all the 5 stars and just read all the 1 and 2 star reviews?! Sooo entertaining, yet so off the mark. I look forward to the drop of the HRCC pod each week. I’m new to being a HAM and love how accessible and welcoming you are for us newbies. Keep it up. And for the record, Taylor Ham is better than Spam. You were so close when you drove from NYC to Amish country through my beloved New Jersey. You could have had that beautiful Taylor Ham Egg and Cheese sandwich on a bagel. Google it…I’ll wait. 73, NJ Brad, KE2DYP

    Always a great time!
I couldn’t imagine a week without hearing the laughs and comments from the podcast. Sometimes I have to go into the archives when they miss one! Some ham radio content, some local news, lots of laughs and a huge community. I tend to write in every 6 months or so with questions or updates! Both Josh and Leah have become a part of my ham family! Highly recommend be prepared for a great listen! #1Xcrew Nick KC1OTX

    Appreciation
Greetings from NE Ohio! I finally went and tested for Technician and General and passed both this morning at the PCARS club site(K8BF). Very friendly and helpful club from my first impression. Thank you Josh and Leia for the informational and entertaining podcast and for recommending all the study materials. Now to get my call sign and get on the air! Besides the radio talk my favorite is the preparedness corner. Maple syrup from Middlefield Amish is the best. Not allergic to Bees. Has anyone considered COTA(Cranes on the air)?

    Great Podcast
After listening to this podcast over many weeks now that I have a long commute, it make starting that journey exciting and ending that journey looking forward to the next start. Leah and that guy who seems to be a trainee???? (name is escaping me right now) are making the drives in to work and back a joy. Stuck in traffic? Oh well, just get to listen a while longer. Sit back, relax and enjoy the conversation (Oh, yeah, John I think or is it one of the many Jason's out there? No still not coming to me) You really need to listen. There is a prep corner, movie review, a good spattering of radio talk and lots for fun and banter to be had. Please keep this going and thanks so much for putting in the hard work. Thanks so much Leah. And you too Josh my friend. Buccees forever!!!

    Great Podcast
I have listened to this podcast since before cat cups existed. When we found the horrors of the touch lamp. Many pods have come and gone from my queue over the years. This one has never left my list. As a team they are awesome! Josh I think is finally getting proper training as a hubby and ham guy. As a married and trained hubby myself I think that is great. Seriously, great show and how I decompress on Saturdays. As I set up my new station in Missouri the pod keeps my head in the game. 73 de W7FAN

    Simply the Best
I can’t say I listen to many podcast, but this is one I always look forward too on Saturday mornings. I love the content, ham radio and other, missing the CW Lounge though. There isn’t a single part I don’t listen too! I also love when I’m listening and they get to the Correspondence compound and I look to see there is still 3hrs left in the pod, I know it’s going to be a good spicy one! This podcast is the perfect mixture of produced show and audience participation and I love it! You should listen too even if you aren’t a ham yet :)

    Thanks Josh and Leah!
I just wanted to thank you Josh and Leah for the fantastic podcast! Listening here and watching the YouTube channel have been part of the inspiration to get my extra license, seeing all the people who you have helped make the leap into this journey of ham radio is something that I can aspire to. I’ve started by helping out at some small group meetings we have here for the beginners and the ham curious, I also just submitted the VE application to the ARRL so hopefully I can do something testing. I haven’t been a ham for very long and I have so much to learn but I’m hopeful that I can pass on the little I do know. Thanks again for all that you do for the ham community! Steven M. W7MBF

    Finally I found it
I had been studying for my Ham tech off and on for a year and a half. I was working in IT at the time and couldn’t find the brain power to study. This February I started a new job and decided to really go for it. I drive for a living now and as I studied I was just hoping for a good radio themed podcast. Last Tuesday I stumbled onto the hrcc discord and podcast after thrusting myself headfirst down a ravine of a radio rabbit hole. This podcast is everything I had hoped for. (I thoroughly especially the movie segment.) This ham radio sphere is a cacophony of information but this podcast finds a way to hold on to the humanity involved. Huge thank you to Josh and Leah for producing this. I have my own podcast and YouTube channel directed towards helping nonprofit’s tell their story. I know how difficult and time consuming all of this is but you truly are helping people, advancing this community, and entertaining us along the way! P.s. just passed my ham tech yesterday! Heather said I should send a letter! I settled with a review! 🤣
  • Golden Beaver Distiller
    Great podcast for many reason!
Ham tech talk without geekdom! This is a lifestyle podcast that talks about ham radio as a tool in life, not tech wiz show. Leah and Josh weave a lot of stuff into 3 hours with humor and positive talk. If you want 100% tech, watch Josh’s YouTube shows.
  • Natersoz
    Pure filler
The point of a story is that there should be a point. Like a Chatty Cathy Doll pulling her own string. Except there are two of them. And that just makes it weird.

    Entertaining and Educational
I may only have one leg, but I have two ears and I use them to listen to this podcast every week as soon as I see it download. Jedediah and Leah’s banter is always entertaining and I have learned a great deal through listening to the back catalog of episodes. Highly recommend for anyone looking to be part of a ham radio community, or just interested in radio and/or emergency preparedness.

    Best podcast for Hams
I love this show. I’m not sure how sustainable their format is but the hosts are a wonderful couple. They love hams and hams love them as can be heard by all the hams that write in. They have so much knowledge in so many areas. I never miss an episode. If you like long format podcasts like I do this podcast will keep your attention for sure. I always listen on Sunday Mornings when I have lots of time. Anyway this pod is the highlight of my week.

    My favorite ham radio podcast
I enjoy listening for the HRCC podcast since May 2022 when I got my Technician license. I like the format and way the hosts Josh and Leah lead the conversation about ham radio and other related and non related topics. Recommend the podcast to everyone who is interested in amateur radio. Also check out their HRCC Youtube channel, you will not regret it. 73 Igor KN6ZEO

Was on the fence… fall on the good side and give Josh and Leah a listen
I found the HRCC podcast by accident while I started studying for my tech license last spring. (2023) My favorite segment was the licensing quiz questions. I was missing most of them since they were for the general exam. At the time “extra by April” was often talked about. Since my car was in the process of being totaled by the insurance company due to hitting a deer, I decided to go for it. I kept listening to the podcasts and was happy while studying for the general exam when I began getting them all correct. Two weeks later I received my extra license. The podcast was a light way to hear about some ham radio topics and I eventually decided to go all in with the fun musings of Josh and Leah. I credit HRCC and NotARubicon for teaching me a lot about radio after I was reintroduced to it by a fellow railfan friend that had a Baofeng UV-5r to listen to train communications. I’ve since built up quite a collection of radios and antennas. My wife even encourages me to buy equipment. I had previously spent time in the US Army Signal Corp, so I have had a life long love of radio and other types of communications. I love the extended length of the show and listen with headphones while doing tasks around the house. I now types of communications. look forward to the podcast each week and save it for a weekly task. Short podcasts are good for short tasks like brushing your teeth, Josh and Leah’s show is for real work day tasks or long drives. I was initially on the fence. Happily, I fell off on the side of embracing the HRCC podcast.

Best Ham Radio Podcast on the Interwebs!!!
If you are looking for a podcast to learn about Ham Radio AND have a good laugh, then look no further! I skim through many other podcasts on Ham Radio but HRCC is on my “always listen” list. My Ham Radio Journey
Good morning Josh and Leah from 2-Ville! I just wanted to share my ham radio journey with you and my appreciation for your podcast. I began, like many, joining the “feng army” in 2017 and purchasing my first uv-5r. I believed throwing this hunk of Chinese junk in with my ultralight backpacking gear would give me a means of emergency communication while off meandering in the backcountry (I didn’t bother actually learning how to use the thing, or bother getting licensed, even though “SOME people” said I should) .. Fast forward to 2023 and the feng usually was left where it belonged all along, in a plastic bin full of junk in my garage. In October of 2023 I decided to buckle down and actually begin learning the basics of HAM radio given the current state of the world and being an NYPD cop working long, often unscheduled hours. I wanted to have another skill that could prove itself invaluable in an emergency situation. I started reading through the tech exam question pool on the HamStudy.org and on October 17th I came across the HRCC YouTube channel .. my first stop, “ham radio technician license prep: sub-element 1 (2022-2026). I scheduled my exam through PARCradio.org. Bruce and the rest of the VE team at PARC were friendly and helpful and on 10/21/23 I became a licensed technician. I wanted to keep the momentum going so I immediately got on my computer and scheduled the general exam for the following week. With some heavy hours of juggling the test pool questions and listening intently to the fast track ham general class audiobook I managed to pass general on 10/28/23, although to my dismay I did get two questions wrong. Since October I’ve followed along with the HRCC podcast. I have subscribed to your livestreams whenever possible and always anticipate new uploads to the HRCC YouTube channel. I purchased a used Yaesu VX-7r, which needed a new screen and Yaesu was able to provide me with, a Xiegu G90 with an armoloq pack frame and after watching Josh’s reviews of the Wouxon kg-q10h I snagged one of those as well. My current HF antenna setup is a chameleon tactical dipole lite 2.0 strung from a large hickory tree in my yard, a chameleon OCF 40 in with my backpacking gear and my most recent purchase, a chelegence mc 750 vertical antenna. I’ve begun playing around with ft8, winlink vara hf, and APRS over the two HTs via a Mobilinkd TNC4, it’s safe to say I’m hooked and have drank the kool-aid. My most exciting moment so far was on December 30th when I was out for a walk with my wife and kids at Teddy Roosevelt’s house (aka sagamore hill aka k-0856) .. I set up the mc-750 in the parking lot, fired up my g90 and had my first successful POTA activation! I only had time for 18 contacts because my wife was pretty fed up at that point, but I did make a QSO in North Africa on 20 meters! This lit a fire under me to get my extra. I went back to HAMstudy.org, put the fast track ham audio book on hyper speed and bagged my Extra ticket last night, 1/9/2024. It’s been a wild ride. Thank you for sparking my interest in this amazing hobby and please, keep doing what you’re doing. 73. Matt L. N2NFG

    The Ham Radio Dynamic Duo!
Thank you so much for everything you do for our wonderful hobby! You two are my absolute favorite husband and wife tag team. The dynamic between you two always puts me in a good mood and always keeps me coming back for more. You guys can literally talk about making your own dawn power wash soap and it keeps me entertained and laughing. Josh with his straight forward engineering outlook on life with the mix of Leah’s charismatic jokes, you’re not only my favorite ham radio podcast, you are my favorite podcast period! Every individual segment is entertaining to me and the hosts do an amazing job engaging the audience. Even my girlfriend who is SO not a ham loves you guys! I tune in every single Friday to learn about the crazy adventures Josh and Leah got into within their busy week. Also I have to take the time to applaud whoever made these HRCC melodies Josh plays before every podcast and live stream. As someone obsessed with digital and analog music production, I have to say they put me in a complete zen state. They are amazing little jingles/tunes and josh please never stop playing them! Just saying I do listen to various different podcasts and this one has been, and always will be my favorite! 73!!!!!! -Nick M. KC1TRB

Come for the Ham, Stay for the Fun!
I found this podcast when I got back into Ham Radio last Summer. I’m sure glad I did. This pod covers ham radio well - Josh really knows his stuff. But it’s the ham adjacent (and no so adjacent) content that makes it special. Leah’s preparedness corner offers some great insights and the tangents they go on are often as informative/entertaining as the main topic - sometimes more.
  • AA7CW Chris
    It’s my favorite!
The HRCC podcast is a weekly light-hearted romp through all sorts of topics with an over-arching theme of amateur radio (ham radio). In recent history it’s topics have included: Ham radio, Scouts, camping, electric pickup truck, food, kids, cargo straps, adult beverages, life schedules, Parks on the Air, The CW Lounge (my personal favorite), Summits on the Air, vacation, hamfests, foxes, Field Day, preparedness, Adam, study for General license, peppers, crows, glamping, QRP, VHF, UHF, camping, suburban social media drama, nicknames of state residents, and the list continues to grow. This is a very good example of what ham radio operators would call a “good rag chew”. Every episode is packed full of facts, and laughs. I highly recommend it for Hams and the Ham curious. Beware, you might become addicted, and find yourself eagerly awaiting each Friday morning, so you can hear their latest episode. Each episode is of indeterminate length. Sometimes you can spend your whole Saturday listening to Josh and Leah while you go about your chores or hobbies, one of which should be ham radio. Chris AA7CW Diamond POTA Hunter

    Great Show!
As I go out and do my ongoing POTA activations, this podcast has become my go to first listen while doing FT8. Josh and Leah are a lot of fun and make for a very enjoyable listen. Especially great is the CW segment, riveting! Also very helpful in learning how to pack a lot of stuff into a vehicle for transport. I too prefer the try and fit it as best you can and hold it in place with your arm out the window method. Who needs straps? Sadly, that truly is my method. Anyway, thanks and keep the great entertainment going! Russ KF0LTY.

    Great Podcast for my workday
Love to listen during my travel days for work, I work all over the state of Wisconsin(yes we love cheese). I have been a licnesed tech operator since 2012, But fell out of the hobby until recently. The whole show has my attenion and I'm currently working at getting my general, So listning to Leah's five questions near the start of the show is my favorite. Taking practice tests have shown that the answers have burnt into my brain, Cause i will be like, hey I heard that on the HRCC podcast. Keep up the great work, -73s KC9WWK Matt
