    Amazing
I love this podcast! The inclusion of music alleviates the focus on purely the visual which could get oppressive. An interesting take. All of the stories and personal histories are wonderful to hear and are inspiring. Occasionally the host’s view towards Christianity gets a bit bitter but he’s otherwise kind, generous, and a funny, delightful interlocutor👏.

This is without a doubt my favorite contemporary art podcast. I feel like I’m in the same room as Brian & the artists he interviews. Conversations wander in many directions but always include educational influences, stories of growing up & dealing with issues that helped & hindered artistic careers & music. Brian is the ultimate interview. He knows when to just listen & how to draw out ideas from introverted guests. His liberal arts background as well as working artist life style really shines in this podcast.

Mini biographies of bright, interesting artists
I love learning about how different artists made it work. Brian Alfred gets smart, talented artists on this pod and asks good questions. Fun, informative, and makes creative people feel at home. Perfect for studio listening!! Check it out!

    Great line up, sleepy pace
A lot of art pods annoy me because the hosts have next to no points they get to; just conversing about random stuff and tangents as if the listener should be clued in (not there to learn practice and process) This one does not do the above so that’s good. The hosts voice is too calm though lol. Literally could put me to sleep… maybe I need to speed it up.

    Candid and insightful
Thoughtful and meaningful connections between art, music, process, and environment. Brian Alfred gets at the humanity behind the work, inviting the listener into a living-room type of conversation where the dialogue feels tangibly accessible.

    Relaxing and Inspiring
Brian is a patient and kind interviewer, and I love hearing about the artists’ history, process, and experiences unrelated to art. The conversations are never forced. But I always have to drop what Im doing to pour over images of each guest’s work in the middle of the episode!

    Wonderful...but!
This podcast is wonderful. Brian’s taste is impeccable. But... I feel Brian interrupts womxn more than men, and he interjects his opinions on womxn’s experiences in a way that is just exhausting. Brian! Please consider slowing down and showing you are listening by asking more questions. The episodes where you go deeper and get to a more emotional space are the best. No matter what, I will keep listening and appreciate what you are doing. Thank you.

    Just the right amount
I really enjoy this podcast. Brian asks intelligent questions about the art, relates art to music in a fun way, finds out about the artists childhood and how they got to where they are.

    Great conversation
A great podcast that gives you a glimpse into the lives of currently working artists. Gives me a way to fee apart of the community!

    Needs Editing
Wonderful choice of artists. I so wish the conversations would focus on the artist and their work. There’s a LOT of uninteresting small talk and way too much of the host. With one I listened to recently, we were 55 minutes in before the conversation turned to the artist’s work! Agony. These could be so much better with editing.

    must listen!
I listen to these all day at work, I love hearing about where some of my favorite contemporary artists grew up, went to school, etc...Brian asks great questions that make for very natural-feeling and inspiring conversations. thankful for this podcast!

    Best
Best artist process podcast out. Deft not to nerdy and over tech like a lot. The intro beat and song though could be much better .

    Best Ritual
I am always excited when this podcast comes out. It’s my favorite part of my morning ritual, to learn from other artists while I work in my studio. Thanks Brian for the work you do in bringing artists stories to the world. Grateful for this podcast.

    Favorite Podcast for the studio
Brian asks the best questions and I really enjoy the candid quality of these exchanges. Often I feel these podcasts are answering really important questions for me about what it means to try and build a career as an artist.

    Fantastic!
This podcast is one of my favorites. It is great to hear relevant contemporary artists talk about there work and lives.

    Great studio listening
This may sound funny but I find listening to other artists talk about themselves both intriguing & boring. Intriguing because I learn about how folks go about making artwork & the thoughts humming around that & some everyday facts about their lives. Boring because sometimes they’re not unlike me or they discuss the more mundane. I like to listen when I’m doing busy work in the studio. Brian’s voice is gentle & easy to listen to & he has an experienced & often poetic take on things. An enjoyable escape.

How many times can someone say ya?
The Cindy hi hye kim was beyond annoying... scary how a vocabulary of ya can carry you through an interview.

    Keeps me in the Studio
Sound and Vision is one of my favorite podcasts. I listen to it all the time in the studio and it keeps me motivated to make art. I feel like it enriches my artistic practice by learning about other artists, galleries, residencies, styles, mediums all while I paint or screenprint. I highly recommend this very personal and laidback creative conversation.

    Great
Honestly never write reviews for podcasts but this one is worth it! A great supplemental resource for me as a BFA student. So many amazing artists interviewed, especially painters.

Love this podcast! Been looking for an art podcast to listen to while working in the studio and this is by far the best I've found. Great artists and great interviews. Thanks so much!

I am very impressive by the skateboad culture influecing on his anesitic insipiration. Being an Japanese born American, I can imagine the cultural shock both in art and music.

    Tomokazu Matsuyama Interview
An interesting interview – from both culture and business aspect!

Interesting peek into the lives of other artists
I listened to a few of these podcasts and a lot about each of them stood out to me. Helen O'Leary's story about where she came from really grabbed my attention. I was surprised to learn that she grew up as a "peasant", mostly making art to identify her cattle and to sell to tourists. Sarah Huges's interveiw was inspiring to me, especially when you, Brian, mentioned the black paint rule and how that rule, as well as most other rules in art are just meant to be broken in order to create. I had Rudy Shepherd as a professor so I listened to his interveiw as well. I found it funny to hear that he'd been working toward med school up until he realized he was meant to do art.

    Guy Yanai Interview
Great conversation about art fairs and the decentralization of the art market as well as the importance of books along side new media. If an age of how the newest technological overtake the previous this descussion shows the importance of keeping old media alive.

    Great While Driving!
Listened to Guy Yanai and Robin Williams (again) on the way home from Pittsburgh. IT's really great getting to hear about the common issues each artist faces. I really related to Robin William's problem of having too many tools and not always knowing which ones to use.
  • Andrew M Novak
    Robin Williams interview
Having watched interviews of Robin Williams before, I found this one particularly well done. I really enjoyed hearing the part of the conversation that focused on social expectations and what is considered "acceptible" behavior for men and women. I also really enjoyed hearing her talk about the technical aspects of her paintings and how she constructs them.
  • Kcollinsart
    Wonderful
Really enjoyed the interview I heard. Keep it up!
  • HARDHEAD11
    Excellent Conversations
The interviews conducted are sharp and interesting, and I always love hearing the diverse views on how art is made and what it means. If you enjoy art and music this is a great podcast to put on while you work. I like to listen to it during long car rides.
  • Waltelier
    Discerning & informative
Insightful look into the art world as seen by some of today's emerging and influential artist's. Brian's method of questioning is brilliant and intuitive, I look forward to listening to many more.

    Too much host
I enjoy the guests that they have on, I just wish the host talked about himself less.

    Here for stories
M not very familiar with a lot of the subject here, but it just feels good to listen different kinds of people's story and experience. I do learn a bit in in terms about music but very limited. And I feel it is not my intention to try to actually learn the substance in the interview. I love to be a quiet audience of stories, and Brian's interviews did give some good times.
