    Killer Show

    Love the variety of guests!
So great to hear the backgrounds and stories from so many different bands! Nothing better than discovering hidden gems musically and Jon Lamoreaux continues to bring these musicians on his show. Thanks for working so hard to make this happen!!

This podcast is a dumpster fire without any redeeming qualities. Knowledge of actual music and the music business by the host is non-existent. Skip this one folks, you’ll never get the wasted time back.

A fun exploration into music and the life
Thorough and interesting interviews with musicians of bands that made great music. It also delves into the human/business side; how that career changed them; hence, “the hustle”.

    Good insider information
This is a podcast for music geeks like me who read the fine print - who read all the credits from every album they buy (in whichever format). If background information on producers, engineers, songwriters, session musicians, as well as the artists themselves is of interest to you, then this is your podcast! Jon is very thorough and does his homework where his guests are concerned. He has a very relaxed demeanor with his guests which gets them to relax and open up with their responses. His list of guests keeps getting more impressive, esepcially some of the nearly-forgotten artists he brings in. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this. This podcast is must-listen material for my drive to work and especially for long-distance drives.

    Too political
This is now unlistenable. John using this podcast to push his anti-republican / pro liberal opinion is a turn-off.

    Music Geek’s Dream Podcast
Jon is livin the dream here and we get to listen along! Imagine if you got to interview your music idols—impress them with your knowledge of deep cuts and ask them personal questions about $, fame and relationships. Sounds super fun to me. The Hustle is the podcast I wish I were hosting. It’s amazing that we get to listen along. Highly recommended.

    Garbage
If you haven’t listened before start with the 7/10/22 episode and you get an idea of what kind of person hosts this show The pure hatred he and his guests have for anyone who disagrees politically...”moronic idiotic villains”...is disgusting yet comical at the same time. I listen to podcasts from people with similar or different beliefs all the time but will not support a show with host of such ignorant and misguided beliefs. People like Jon and his buddies are part of the problem.

I'm late to the podcast party
I am indeed late to the podcast party, but for some reason 'The Hustle' was the one that got on my radar and I haven't turned back since. I've been in the music industry for over 30 years and know a thing or two about many of the guests Jon brings onto the show...but the beautiful thing is that he pulls A LOT more out of them. He's a huge music fan that gets to talk to some of the biggest names in the industry...which puts us the listeners in his shoes. Asking many questions some of us have always been curious about. It's a fun and inspiring show and producer Jan does an excellent job behind the scenes editing as well. If I ever start up a podcast myself, I'll have no hesitation in saying this is the show, host and team that inspired it. Look forward to more great episodes to come! Jake / Minneapolis

    For any music lover
This show is incredible. It’s changed the music I listened to, given me new ideas, explained music I always liked, and much much more. If you’re into music you will love this!

    Great guests, good interviews
John gets some great and obscure guests from the bands that I love and clearly enjoys talking to them. He also asks some fairly interesting deep cut or off the wall questions, different from many interviewers. I think his knowledge of the music that he likes is very deep. Unfortunately he also has a tendency to talk over the people he interviews and needs to just let them answer the questions without saying “yeah yeah” over the entire answer. These vocal tics become annoying when you’ve been listening for a while. The quality of the show has definitely improved over the years and is worth listening to despite John’s sometimes irritating fanboy approach. (Everything is “my favorite!”) Overall I can put up with the annoying parts, especially when he interviews folks I’m interested in.

    Jon is the best!
Not only does this podcast get some of the best guests, but the host is great as well. You can tell that he does his research. Jon’s enthusiasm for his guests is contagious. Definitely worth checking out!

    Highly recommended!!
Jon is the kindest, most generous, most knowledgeable music podcaster out there. He gets the most fantastic behind-the-scenes guests you’ve never heard of and some of the ones you have.

    Thank you Jon
I only stumbled across this podcast through an interview with Justin Currie of Del Amitri, and have been entertained by many more shows since then. I look forward to going deeper into the catalog. I especially appreciated the Paula Cole, and Juliiana Hatfield interviews. THANK YOU! C.Cheese.

    One of my favorites!
I love the format of the show and the guests are really interesting. In addition, I enjoy listening to the extra “deep dives” and “book club” episodes as well. Most of all I just enjoy listening to Jon. For lack of a better term, he is “real” and his passion for music and the people he interviews is obvious. Listening to the show is like spending time with a friend each week. You should give it a listen!

    My Favorite Podcast
Jon is an exceptional interviewer. He stays away from formulaic questions and has a wonderful talent at building trust and comfort with his guests, which allows them to feel more open to share their stories with him. He and I also share a favorite song by KISS, so he earns points there too. Jon, thank you!

    If you love music...
especially the 80’s and 90’s, which was the height of music for me, this Podcast is a must. You can tell Jon is a true fan of the musicians he interviews. The enthusiasm, the questions, the interactions…he has the amazing ability to connect with his subjects and audiences. What a treat.

    So great!
Jon is a great host with a terrific show. He’s got a fiery passion for music and brings that out with all his guests. He not only discusses what he loves about all his guest’s musical credits and history, but does an excellent job at getting to topics that haven’t been uncovered. This show has got a lot of heart and you can tell he really cares about the people he talks with. I really enjoy it and am looking forward to checking out all the past episodes! ~Hector

A not-depressing “where are they now” podcast!
This is a really unique music podcast, as it goes in depth on artists that are somewhat forgotten yet everybody knows their work.

    Turn It Down!!!
Hey John. I love your podcast. I’ve given a five star review to it because it’s much deserved. I came upon your podcast through the rock solid podcast that Pat Francis does. One of the things that sets The Hustle cast apart from that podcast are the less known artists that you interview. So many of them are artists that all of us know but have never heard of name wise. I additionally love how you broach the topic of how these artist make their living, or if they even can. Thank you for the fun and education that you bring with the podcast. Just one kind criticism. I find that when you’re interviewing your volume is super hot compared to those that you interview. Additionally often when you are done with the interview and you close the show that too is very loud. On a recent episode you discussed how sometimes people say that you run over the interviewee. I don’t see that you have a super huge problem with that, although you are quite exuberant, it may be a simple technical issue with turning down your volume. Take this suggestion or leave it for what it’s worth. Again great job!!!

    A true music fan
Jon seems like a true music fam, and his enthusiasm shows in his interviews. Great guests, and great interviews.
  • Monkee Maniac
I really want to give this five stars, but...
...Jon, you have GOT to let your guests speak! I understand the fannish enthusiasm, but you always feel the need to interject and cut your guests off, especially when they seem to be on a roll! I love the work and passion you put into this and the guests you score, but please take a minute to listen to yourself sometime. You may find yourself screaming at the phone like some of us do, “LET THE MAN TALK!!!”

    Great Guests, Great Interviews
This has been a great find. I landed here for artists I was most familiar with, but have listened to many great interviews of artists I wasn't too familiar with or hadn't even heard of - there are some great stories out there. I like how Jon isn't afraid to ask questions that die hard fans of an artist would love to know. As a fan of Bryan Adams, I welcomed Jon asking Micky Curry - 'what happened' in reference to Bryan no longer rocking. Or recently asking Frankie Sullivan why the remaining original members of Survivor can't go out together. I look forward to seeing new episodes and it's always an added bonus if it is of one of my favorite artists.

The hustle is my favorite podcast. Do you think you’ll be able to interview Steve porcaro ( Toto) or Steve Lukather ? Also would love a deep dive with Wang Chung masonic album. Keep rock

Terrific interviews with “deep cut” guests
I came to this podcast late and it’s interesting to hear how it’s evolved. Used to focus on musicians’ 2nd or 3rd act after they got out. Now it’s a real mix. John has become a unique interviewer who draws out great stories and backstories from a wide range of writers, musicians and producers. I especially love hearing the producers’ stories and perspectives.

    Love this podcast
I just discovered this podcast a couple of weeks ago. We’ve been in lockdown mode and I’m going through major nostalgia for better days. The 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. I love listening to these interviews of artists recalling their memories of days gone by. So far standout episodes for me have been Juliana Hatfield, Dave from Catherine Wheel, Joey Scarbury and Eric Bazilian of the Hooters. I can’t wait to listen to more. Thanks for this podcast!

    No snobbery here.
Everything I initially disliked about this podcast is what ended up being exactly what I love about it. Initially, I found this through Jon's extended interviews with certain music industry people I happen to be fascinated with -- including members of Talking Heads, The Waitresses, XTC and producers like Clive Langer and Bob Rock. Most of the music podcasts I listen to (and most of the ones that get the attention) are from a "pro" perspective, hosted by either industry people with some experience reaching out to colleagues and digging deeper, or worse -- professional critics. I'm used to a certain level of "snobbery" in this approach, for better or for worse. I didn't spend a lot of time thinking about acts that I never cared for or happened to be outside of that RS / SPIN magazine Top 500 "canon." (What self respecting rock critic would admit, as Jon does, "I don't really care for The Band... I never got it!?") As I got through the artists here I was most interested in, I appreciated more and more Jon's status as a fan rather than expert. The subjects in turn, seem to really appreciate his enthusiasm and deep knowledge, which very often opens interesting doors traditional journalists/critics would never enter. After those listens, I went to the next tier. Maybe a one-hit wonder I was fascinated by. A behind-the-scenes person I recognized from liner notes. Even the stories of people whose music I barely know turn out to be quite fascinating as Jon delicately digs in to what it's like to make a living (or not) in this very crazy business over the decades. Even with people I've never even heard of Jon seems to always pull a thread or two to make the whole a fascinating composite picture of the ups and downs of all kinds of human beings trying to make it in a crazy, tough -- and getting-tougher business without losing their minds or souls. I've learned more than I thought possible about acts I thought I already knew inside-out, , learned to love acts I've never thought abou much at all, and learned to have more respect for acts i never thought I'd "like." An always- unexpected eye-opener offering a perspective unique among music podcasts. A+

    Still Great!!
Been listening for about a year. I tend to get tired of things and move on to other podcasts. Not this time! I love Jon and Jan so much, I became a Patreon member. Never gave anyone $$ for a podcast. Not even Pat Francis. The Hustle has made my quarantine experience more tolerable. Give a listen. I am so sure you will love it. XXOO Diane

    Always great work
Jon’s exuberance for his guests draws you in and makes you proud to be part of this club he’s created of fans of pop music and the people that have created it. Even if you’re not a fan of one of the guests if you give it a chance his questions will make you glad you listened . Jon doesn’t ask the tried and boring questions of a rock journalist but of a fan and someone who cares deeply about these people he’s chosen to seek out and interview . I’m a huge fan of this podcast and if you listen to one you will end up listening nonstop! Thanks Jon !

One of the best music podcasts out there!
John does a great job. Everything that makes podcasts great, John does: great, unexpected guests, great questions, tough questions. John is always prepared with both his questions and plenty of background. I’ve found myself listening to entire episodes of “The Hustle” even when I had no background or interest in the artists being interviewed going in. John makes each one essential listening! Skip at your own (weekly or sometimes more often...) risk!

    My favorite hands down
What can I say about this show. I have been listening for a few years and it keeps getting better. Jon's passion, respect for the artists and his depth of knowledge is really the star here. Thanks Jon for what you do. Looking forward to whats coming.

    Awesome music pod
Love “The Hustle!” Jon goes deep and is through in interviews of musicians, writers, and producers, and his enthusiasm and knowledge are second to none. Great way to go below the surface with known, and many forgotten, stars of rock and pop past. Great job!

    A music podcast "must listen"
Been listening to this wonderful podcast for some time and Jon continues to bring on interesting guests - many we all remember fondly. What makes The Hustle stand out from the many other music podcasts is the angle he takes and the questions he asks. I also enjoy Jon's obvious enthusiasm - as a music nut and fanboy myself, Jon presents as "one of us," and goes places that we too, as fans would like to go. I also enjoy how he intersperses songs into the interview, which adds context to the conversations. Highly recommended!

    A genuine love of music
I discovered this podcast through Rock Solid and really enjoy the unique combination of interviews, music, and compelling topics. Jon asks terrific questions and the interviewees really seem to open up to him. Most of all, the genuine love of music shines through and I appreciate hearing someone share that enthusiasm.

    Every episode is a gem
Jon is an excellent interviewer because he over-prepares. Every person to whom I have referred this podcast has become a fan too.

One of the best podcasts out there!
If you dig the music you loved back in the day... and ever wondered about wheee they are now... what was it like during their period of popularity, or anything of circumstance... this podcast will not disappoint you. Jon does an excellent job navigating the highs and lows and the outrageous!
  • Bractune9
Can an interview podcast be unique?
Yes it can! It is so compelling to have a podcast focused on interviewing musicians after the limelight has faded. Jon's questions get quite personal at times. Some guests seem put off when he tries to dig deep, and some seem to relish the chance to really open up. Both scenarios are fascinating.
  • Chadstockwell
    Dig it!
Jon really gets insight from his guests about the music industry with great stories and the ups and downs of it. I'm a lover of music so I appreciate his love and respect for it too.

    I love this podcast
I’m a nerd of music and these backstories excite me so much! Great guests and deep diving into the business. Keep up the EXCELLENT work!!

This was made for music geeks like me
I am always looking for honest conversations, in this podcast era, with musicians I grew up loving. This podcast is an absolute treasure— a jackpot of such information. And Jon shows his fandom by asking questions that fans would ask without sounding like something from the Chris Farley show. I’m so excited to keep listening.
  • WaylonSpawn
    An absolute Godsend!
I too love this show. I felt like no one cared about the, let's say, more marginal musicians I always loved but wondered whatever happened to. So many great stories here that I've been chain-listening for the last several weeks. Jon Lamoreaux's unapologetic love for his idols, many of which are mine too, is extremely validating for music geeks like me. Please, PLEASE, keep churning them out, Jon. You're not alone!

    For Hardcore Music Lovers
I just discovered this podcast, and I’m currently in binge mode. I had been listening to the band Guadalcanal Diary, and I decided to search podcasts for lead singer Murray Attaway. The Hustle came up and looked interesting. I downloaded the Murray Attaway episode, then proceeded to discover a treasure trove of episodes dedicated to one-hour-plus interviews of musicians such as Chris Butler of The Waitresses, Don Dixon, Franke Previte of Franke and the Knockouts, Chris White of the Zombies, Brent Bourgeois, Liberty Devitto, and the list goes on. They aren’t household names (except in my household), and it’s great to hear in-depth interviews with musicians I’ve loved for years who don’t get a great deal of coverage. I also like how the podcast deals with the business side of the music industry, giving an insight we don’t often get to hear about. Parts of some interviews can be hard to make out when dealing with road noise or other distractions, but Jon is at the mercy of the phone lines and can’t necessarily be faulted for that. OK, I have four years worth of episodes to catch up on.
