mjbirenMovie lovers movie showLove this show. It’s about movies, sort of, and TV shows, sometimes- never mind, I thought about trying to be funny. But I can’t do it as well s the guys on the show. A man’s gotta know his limitations. This show is a lot of fun. Plus there is some movie and TV talk. I enjoy it enough to download this other podcast app and leave this review.

Hippie H8RMay as well call it 5by5 at the Marvel/DC movies.I can’t believe these guys constantly get away with these shenanigans. Keith and Dan call themselves movie podcasters, I say that is a falsehood. A falsehood ladies and gentlemen! If you love Marvel, DC, Ezra Miller, and James Gunn then you will absolutely fall all over yourself to listen to these guys. Yet, Academy Award NOMINATED films such as Mrs Harris Goes to Paris are completely ignored and never reviewed. Surrerrre they throw in some Star Trek every now and then, but I ask you, does that take away the pain of anticipating a show devoid of James Gunn worship, only to be slapped in the face with it by segment 2 every single week? That is when they actually feel like doing a show. Heck at this point I sometimes wonder what we all pay absolutely nothing for. Oh. 5 Stars. Worth a listen.

KrogueGreat Movie News Podcast! Although not sure why Hippie H8R is after me!Update - I have now been enjoying this podcast for 2 years. After another year of listening, Keith is still sometimes abrasive and meandering (although he did go a whole episode without cursing), but he and Dan are always funny and insightful. Even as someone who inhales movie news throughout the week from multiple sources, both hosts always give me some new movie tidbit I wasn’t aware of before. I can’t recommend this podcast enough for anyone who wants the most current weekly news of the movie industry …. even if you do occasionally have to insult random people on Twitter to win their giveaways! (Also … as a side note … any podcast who mentions Cherry 2000 immediately has my permanent loyalty!)

PenskaaGet your movie talk fixDuring these trying times(TM), movies are forked. Everything is forked. But there is still light-hearted banter about movies thanks to Keith and Dan. Thanks for making me laugh. And I actually laugh - not just chuckle appreciatively.

igormax*****... now stop begging and get on with it...

heyjeffgAwesome movie news and reviewsA really fun movie podcast. If you think it’s NSFW you need to find a better place to work. Allegedly the hosts actually watch movies now so it should get even better.

WalkaerA movie talk show for the rest of usI can’t get enough of listening to Keith and Dan! Their engaging (and often ribald) conversations about new blockbusters, current events, and old comics hit me right in the amygdala! I don’t get out to see a lot of movies, keep abreast of much news, or read many comics (though I’d like to) - so listening to these two lovable goofballs on my morning and evening commutes really helps me when trying to keep up with my nerdy peers (who do make time for movies, news, and comics).

John LeftyNeeds More TinkeringI’ve been looking for Movie podcast that provides movie news and quick non spoiler reviews. This podcast does give some movie news (why no weekend box office totals results discussion?) and interesting interviews but no movie reviews. Presenter will make passing comments about movies or actors but no real discussion. Would love to hear quick movie reviews as that would help me see if presenter and I are on the same page on things but with only passing comments with no in depth discussion about a particular movie, there’s no way for me to get a real sense on what movies, movie types, or actors the presenter likes. Will give it a few more shows before I look else where for my movie insight fix.

Bryan56They dont even go to any moviesI like Keith and Dan's chemistry. I've come to really dig Dan's "yeeeeeaaah" to cool announcements, but Keith's negativity, and lack of depth of the headlines/ topics wears this. He's joke'd that that real title should be "Quick/ unresearched opinion of headlines of announcements," but I wish they'd go a little deeper sometimes. ALSO for a podcast called "At the movies," I dont think I've heard about a single movie going EXPERIENCE either has had. I can tell they like movies, but I don't know if they go to movies. I did enjoy the interview they did with Thomas Ian Nicholas Keith did last year. I grew up on both Rookie of the Year and American Pie, and even went and saw him perform an accoustic set at a local bar; if not for the (recent) interview from this show, he'd probably not be somewhere in my mind and I wouldn't have seen a cool live show.

TFactoryAmazing!There, I left a review.

amynicrHi Dano! This is Dan’s sister! I haven’t actually listened yet, but everything Dan does is great, so FIVE STARS! ❤️ UPDATE: I finally started listening and you two are adorable. Somehow Keith is the straight man and Dano is the hype man, but also both are funny, silly gooses! AND the content is great; I’ve added a dozen movies to my watch list. Five stars officially earned! Xoxoxoxo

-
IGITINailed it.There are no other movies worth watching.
-
glassblowerscat3 Hours of GoodfellasMy only quarrel with this show is that there are not more episodes. DAN AND MERLIN MUST DO THE BIG LEBOWSKI.
-
soupstackMore pleasePlease?

ericmelzerExcellent. Want more movie talk. There has only been one episode to date but it is excellent. Go re watch Goodfellas and then listen to this. It's great. Especially for Hypercritical fans. It's nice to hear John Siracusa speak gleefully about a topic for several hours. Complaining is his specialty, but you can tell he loves this movie and his enthusiasm is contagious. As usual, Dan does a great job as well. Now I want more of these movie episodes. I'd love to hear episodes with Gruber, Merlin, Marco and of course Jim D! Just thinking about that makes me happy.

scottjalVery funDon't let it end here!

a.g.leeGreat -- one of my favorite 5by5Loved the discussion and analysis. After this I watched Goodfellas again and enjoyed it that much more.

Todd VaziriThis Podcast Was FunnyFunny how, like a clown? It amused me? Brilliant cinema discussion. Great job, Dan and John.

Dré Day...Hungry for moreI listened to the inaugural podcast in it's entirety on a long drive and I really enjoyed it. I hadn't Goodfellas since it's original release but after listening, I'm anxious to watch it again, looking for the details and subtle nuances discussed in the podcast. Great job... I'm definitely hungry for more...

JH FischerEpicWhat a way to kick of "5by5 at the Movies" - an epic discussion of "Goodfellas" that was substantially longer than the movie itself! The ever-analytical John Siracusa was in his element, dissecting scene after scene, along with the always-listenable Dan Benjamin. After listening, I was finally motivated to see the film, and I believe listening to the podcast was a big help in understanding and enjoying the film. I look forward to more episodes in this series.
-
ccaajjThey had accents? An excellent show about an excellent movie. Best parts: hearing Siracusa with the explicit tag; finding out that people think the characters in the movie had accents (I'm from NY).
-
sslbunGreat insigt to a great movieThis was the most interesting conversation I've heard in a while. I listen to a lot of Dan's podcasts, and I'm eagerly waiting for more 5by5 at the movies.
-
followwithFMDinAMFunny, how?Are you kidding? Is there no editing? The hosts lose their place, repeat themselves, allow prolonged stretches of dead air, and the end result? "The first scene was really good. How bout the next scene? Boy, that was good. The scene to follow was good as well!". This goes on for three hours. Fugeddabowdit!

unarmed apple purveyorEveryman AnalysisAs they mentioned in episode one, they're not film experts, and so we miss out on some history and vocabulary that would make this show as stellar as Hypercritical. I found the best parts to be when John talked about Italian culture in New York (which he IS an expert on). I think having a film student on board (via chat, maybe) just to supply a little context/history/technique/vocabulary would DOUBLE the quality of this podcast, since the worst parts were when they spent "paragraphs" trying to explain a crane shot, or p.o.v. shot, or transitions, or other non-layman terms. To say nothing of the TONS of maze-like WHAT-IF discussions they'd get into if they started thinking "what if Scorcese cut to a two-shot of Deniro & Liotta instead of dissolving to that long establishing shot of the building?" But then it'd be a 10-hour podcast...
-
themadbastageGreat inaugural episodeI love the scene by scene breakdown, and discussion of the themes like the food, and the insights into a few things that I missed on previous viewings. I immediately watched Goodfellas again after listening to this podcast. I can't wait for the next one

Steve SaviorRiveting!!!Great show guys.

PulchersentioMore excellence from 5by5I can't wait to hear more of these.

LllllllbrainnnnssssAwesome!:-)

Quint622Great Movie! Great Podcast!Love the discussion of "Goodfellas". Only one complaint, instead of reading the dialogue and than playing the clip of that same dialogue, make a choice and pick one. Other than that it's a great podcast.
-
scoobydoobydoowopGreat new show!Excellent job guys. Looking forward to more!
-
Keichan73+ hours of Dan Benjamin and John Siracusa? Yes please!Non-stop, intelligent, thoughtful discussion and analysis of arguably one of the best movies ever created. Once you start listening, you won't be able to stop.
-
bgribinAnother Great 5by5 PodcastThe first episode was great. Keep it up!
-
japaSneeZemonkAhoy hoyMy brothers dog ate my list of podcasts. Seriously, what is wrong with my dog, he chews on anything and everything. Anyway, lucky for me my anger turned to excitement once I began listening to Mr. Siracusa and Mr. Benjamin discuss some "GoodFellas." Thank you.
-
ColdmodeYour favorite broadcasters, now talking about your favorite movies.Just two smart guys talking about a great movie. Dan and John, in the inaugural episode of 5by5 At the Movies, put together a tour de force of all the reasons to love one of the greatest mobster movies of all time. Their attention to the details of the movie guided my eye to many, many small excellent nuggets of information that I overlooked in my multiple viewings. Siracusa is the master of the review-as-art, and he works his magic again here. If you like Goodfellas, or even if you're just a fan of movies in general, do yourself a favor and give this show a listen.
-
RubelsYou think I'm funny? Funny how???Best podcast ever!! More more!
-
Charles E.Worth listening a second timeI listened to the Goodfellas episode live as it was recorded, and it's so great that I listened again when it came out. John Siracusa and Dan Benjamin at their finest. Watch Goodfellas, and then listen to this podcast. Can't wait for the next episode.
-
Scott T Williams3+ Hours of Goodfellas? Yes please. It's Dan and Siracusa talking at length about Goodfellas, what else do you want? They cover the major plot points, characters, and direction in good detail. Both hosts love the movie, but manage to avoid being sycophants. Highly recommended.
