Writers Who Don't Write

42

Hosted by Jeff Umbro and Kyle Craner, this project began as a way for the two of them to get over their own fears of writing, and slowly morphed into an inspiring multi-year project to tell the stories others find difficult. Each episode brings a well-known creative into the studio to discuss his or her career, their newest projects, and one story they’ve always struggled to tell. Guests include Andy Weir, Lev Grossman, Stephanie Danler, The McElroys, Claire Messud, Mark Manson & Tim Urban, among dozens of others.

    Irritating Interviewers
The episode with Dana S was so infuriating! The interviewers were so condescending towards her I almost threw my phone!

Fun show to fire up your writing !
Such a fun listen! Jeff and Kyle are easy and enjoyable to listen to along with their amusing and good hearted guests. I espeically enjoyed listening to Sara Novic share about her getting published journey. She has such a great attitude about still being wowed by her publication, her teaching, and her continuous commitment to writing more novels. Energy exchange between guests and hosts feels very warm and friendly! Thanks for the inspiration to be open to possibilites due to the people who you know~ CaraF13

A Great Podcast for Aspiring Writers
This is a very enjoyable podcast for writers and those who admire them. The hosts are very relatable and ask the questions I would ask of their guests. Sometimes, I need a little boost of encouragement/confidence and this show provides it. I especially enjoyed the episodes with Colin Barrett and Nathan Hill. Look forward to more!

    New fave binge-listen.
I found WWDW when doing a search for a writer I was interested in, and I absolutely loved the episode and kept listening. It just so happens that my career is in books and publishing, which translates to a bit of writer-chat fatigue. So I was surprised to find myself so engaged and entertained that I wanted to hear episode after episode. I like Jeff and Kyle's self-deprecating style, and the writers they bring on the show would likely not get on my radar in other ways. So I learn, I laugh, and I end up feeling inspired about my own writing on the other side. Great work and highly recommended!

    Pandering
A good episode or two with insight, but a lot of time is spent appealing to the SJW crowd and political correctness. Unsubscribed after content went down and politics went up.

    Not as Good As Longform
The hosts aren't very dynamic and seem way less informed than the Longform Podcast dudes. The only saving grace is that they have decent guests.

Great execution of an interesting concept
I particularly enjoyed the Lev Grossman interview, as I am a fan of his work, but I enjoyed all of them. Kyle and Jeff have a very interesting concept going here, and seem to be doing it very well. I find that if you imagine them stroking their beards majestically, while listening to the podcasts, it makes the experience exponentially more enjoyable. Bravo.

    Great interviews!
Love this podcast. Has an NPR kind of feel. These guys get a wide range of interesting guests from different backgrounds. Always look forward to hearing the next episode.

These guys go deep into the art and craft and business of writing right now, with a great mix of guests. Smart, funny, compelling.

    Engaging and Lively
This is one of the best podcasts about writing and books out there … the variety of guests they have keep it fresh and every episode distinct. Jeff and Kyle do a great job keeping the conversation interesting but free-flowing. Never feels like an interview, it's a conversation, like the best podcasts often are. Highly recommended to readers, writers and all thinking people

    Fire cast
I listened to this show with no idea what I was getting into. I wasn't disappointed. The quality of the guests blew me away. I recommend listening to a writer you know and then one you don't.

Insightful, intelligent, and entertaining lit talk.
Come for the writers who’re already your favorites, stay for the new favourites you discover. The art and work of writing, the intricacies of the world of publishing, and the difficulties of just keeping going are playfully and incisively teased apart by two smart hosts and the fascinating collection of authors, journalists, essayists, and editors they talk with. Highly recommended.
